they met in a large room with tables and chairs. some actors said "blah blah blah". this enraged the league who said, "blah blah blah"
they then ended the meeting with the agreement to do it again tomorrow.

Posted: 6/25/04 at 10:08pmThe deadline is fast approaching, is it not? If I remember correctly it's around this Sunday or something... here's hoping they reach a fair agreement.

among the things at stake...health care for the actors and the issue of equity road companies.
Take a look at Playbille and some other theater pubs to get more detail.

Sunday midnight (or 12:01 monday a.m. really)
We should all be hoping they settle. The city will lose a lot of tourist income, the tourists will be ticked off and looking for things to do...like annoy us...and the equity actors will not win much except an unpaid vacation. There is a lot to try to hammer out and the issues are valid issues. I just wish the league and the union would come together somehow before the deadline....or extend the deadline which is possible I suppose. They had indicated they were closer late last week, but this week it didn't seem to be so.

Posted: 6/25/04 at 11:57pmWhile most of my actor friends are worried about the financial implications, several have said they'll enjoy having a few days off. I can't imagine the city will allow this to go on too long...

Out here on the road, we have been informed to remove all personal items from the theatre NOW in case of a strike.
Do you know hard it is to haul Marc Shaiman's pedestal in and out of the theatre? Not to mention these hills in San Francisco.
(just kidding boss) Hope your feeling better today.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 3:57pmSo if there is a strike, it is going to be all members of Actors' Equity? On the road and on Broadway?

So, will you be striking or just out of a job? Also, will Regional productions that contain members of Actors' Equity strike? Sorry, just curious.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 5:03pmA strike would mean every show that has an equity actor, everywhere.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 5:14pmNO it doesn't.... it is JUST for people on a production contract. That is Bway and all tours using a production contract. ALL other contracts dinner theatre, tya, lort, cost, etc are NOT effected by this strike.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 10:41pmAhh i just saw the new about it. I'm nervously waiting too. SO if one actor from any show is on the actor's equity and go on strike they will close the show or will they get someone to fill in. Sorry everyone don't know that much how it works.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 10:47pmI believe how a union works is if the union leaders decided to go they all go on strike, if they don't then they have to deal with the other union members who have, and that's not normally a pretty site. Besides if a cast leaves it's going to be kind of hard to do a show away.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 10:55pmFor all joining information you should go to their website www.actorsequity.org There was already a vote and the membership voted to give the council permission to approve the strike by like 98%. If the actors strike ALL the actors strike on broadway and on professional equity tours under a production contract. All actors and stage managers on Bway are equity.

There are only four shows that are exempt from this strike.
The rest will go out at midnight if they don't reach an agreement OR extend deadline
