Have you ever been totally lost in the plot of a musical? I mean, it could also be a play- but really- have you ever been TOTALLY lost and been too embarassed to ask whats going on??
I saw West Side Story once and all the jets pretty much looked the same to me (i was in the nosebleed section of the theatre so..that might have something to do with it...) and i couldn't tell the 'diff' between 'action' and 'riff'- so when riff died and 'gee officer krupke' came on in the second act i was like 'oh he isn't dead after all- he's actually quite comical! but he really sounds a bit different since the first act...'
wait it gets worse..i couldn't tell the difference between anita and maria either! (only for some scenes tho) wow...i can't believe i walked out of there NOT brain dead :P

Probably Last 5 Years but after a while I got it.
I did Merrily We Roll Along and that must be a hard show to see, especially the first time, considering the play goes backwards in time.
Has anyone here seen "Womyn in Three" by Caren lyn Manuel? For some reason I was completely lost thoughout that show.

Rent.
I was totally confused during the Phantom movie because for some reason I could hardly hear the words.
Our 7th grade class saw the high school production of the first act of the dress rehearsal of Les Miz.
THAT. WAS. BAD.
(Actually, the performance itself was awesome... but none of the idiot 7th graders understood a word of what happened, except like, err... me. This year, 2 years afterward, I finally dragged my friends to the production in Chicago and they were like "Oh, so that was what it was about...").
Rent confused me a lot.
Rent, it was like "oh, they want to own a resturant?" and then the whole Contact scene confused the hell outta me.
I'm completely stupid... but I didn't get some of The Sound of Music. I was probably not paying very much attention because it's as boring as crap.
when i think about it..RENT confused me alot too...
I was really confused when I saw Les Mis for the first time. But I was pretty young. Then I read Hugo's novel, and when I saw it for the second time, it was much clearer!
yeah, still wondering WHY I ever went to see Napoleon in Toronto...lol
RENT.
Thank God I had heard the soundtrack before and knew the plot before I went in. But, if I had known nothing about it, I would have been completly confused.
One of the reasons I'm not a Rent fan is that it's so darn confusing...

RENT because they had so many characters. I eventually understood what was going on, but it took a while. Also, Phantom. But that's becasue I basically fell asleep in the first act, so I didn't really understand the plot, but it was visually pleasing.
its pretty astounding how everyone thinks RENT is so confusing but it is one of the most loved shows on broadway :P

You heard the soundtrack?!!! You must mean The Original Broadway Cast Recording. Soundtracks are for movies.

Rent. I didn't get much of it.
Rent and Les Mis.
I had the fortune of hearing the RENT OBCR before I went to see the show, though, and was able to understand what the hell was going on. I love RENT to death, regardless. :) Les Mis took me some listens-through AFTER the show... and I had to read the book. Ha.

I wasn't really confused by RENT, but after seeing it, I read a script and there was a lot of, "Oh! I didn't know that happened!"
I would say The Last Five Years. I was really confused, but I eventually got it.

Man of la Mancha...it took me the whole first act to realize there was a Don Quioxte and a Cervantes...I didn't understand why the story of Don Quioxte was taking place in a dungeon...lol. I still don't understand why Cervantes was in prison. I mean yeah the Spanish inquistiion but what did he do? I was so lost, I still kinda am, and I felt/feel stupid. Usually I'm the one that is explaining to plot to everyone else.
I saw Light in the Piazza and was totally confused. I had fallen asleep and thought I missed something. My friend told me all I missed was a song entirely in Italian, so nothing comprehensable. Really confusing show!
