I think that one of the most underrated and well made movie musicals is "Hair". I also like a few others mentioned here. I'm surprised that the movie version of "The Wiz" would make it on anyone's favorite list. IMO, that move, along with "A Chorus Line" are two of the worst movie musicals ever made. To each his own.

Pab! of course, I love the movie of Hair. I think it actually improved on the show. Plus the Twyla Tharp choreography, a great cast and chorus. I think I need to put it on as soon as I get home.
Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.

CHICAGO. No question. I don't remember the last time a movie blew me out of the water the way Chicago did.

There are too many brilliant musicals, several for each mood I might be in, so I'll just name--in no particular order:
Fiddler on the Roof
Carousel
My Fair Lady
Meet Me in St. Louis
Oklahoma!
The King and I
Into the Woods
Wicked
The Music Man
The Sound of Music
West Side Story
The Light in the Piazza
Phantom of the Opera
Chicago
L'il Abner
I'm a nerd. Happily.

Cabaret--soooo amazing--and Moulin Rouge
Sidenote: I read(Boston Globe?) that Brokeback's stars Heath and Jake first met when they both lost the role of Christian in Moulin Rouge to Ewan McGregor.

3) The Sound of Music
4) The Music Man
5) Moulin Rogue
6) Little Shop of Horrors (maybe would've been higher on the list if they didn't change the ending)
7) Hair
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
