Dose anyone know when they will release the cast recording of gypsy ???
I thought they were not going to record
No, they are going to record it. I believe the label will be Time Life. And to answer your question, alxscrz2, I don't know.
No release date has been set, because no recording date has been set. As of now, a studio hasn't even been tenatively booked, nor has the cast been notified of the recording.
i thought someone on here said they asked Patti and she said they were not planning on recording... was I just really gullible?
They asked and posted that last summer when it was still at City Center and had no plans of transferring to broadway and then someone bumped the thread about two weeks ago.
There was a previous thread on this:

someone posted this in it:
The recording is definitely happening on Time Life/Warner Bros Records. This is from the record co. it will be recorded either on 4/7-4/8 or 4/28 or 4/29. Final contracts are being signed now. It will be the most complete musically recording of "Gypsy," plus 6 cut songs from the original Broadway production. There will be one, using a newly found original Sid Ramin-Robert Ginzler orchestration. An announcement will be coming from Time Life in the next few weeks.
I am so thrilled to have a recording of LuPone! This is great!
I want this recording more than anything else in the world right now, but I wouldn't expect much from Time Life. They've given Annie 30th the same "most complete" treatment and still haven't released it six months after the original planned release date.

So it should be released May or June?

Um, maybe someone involved with the production and the record label should get on that. If this falls through...
I can't believe record lables aren't fighting over who gets to record it. I know it's Broadway, but it's frikin' Patti LuPone in Gypsy!
Exactly, CATS!
Especially after those reviews! Many are calling this production definitive or the best since Merman's. I don't understand why it's stuck with a RUMORED, unannounced recording by Time Life that I'm terrified won't even happen. Sony BMG could have easily jumped at this the way they did for South Pacific.
I sent an E-mail to Time Life regarding this. Despite their guarantee of reply in 24 hours they have yet to reply (its been over 48 hours).
If this does not happen I will be one unhappy person! I will e-mail Time Life everyday if I have to, in order to get this recording!

I've sent them several e-mails regarding Annie and they've never responded.

THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm sooo pre-ordering it.
Thank you for the info, tdl83!
I really hope we get an official announcement soon.
Is the recording still going to be announced officially this week?
I'm beginning to get a little worried!

It will be announced shortly. I am with the production. It's definite.
I hope it gets released soon, as I am dying to hear it!
So Nice She Ain't, Mama's Talkin' Soft and the other cut number (digs through piles of book for Suskin's Show Tunes) Three Wishes for Christmas will be on the album (along with three others I don't know about)? That's great news!
I just hope it comes out. And I hope the sound quality isn't too boxy. I really don't think I can wait any longer. I needs me some LuPone Gypsy. Now.
Is she going to sing the song Styne and Sondheim wrote and then cut for Rose after Herbie walks out? It was replaced during rehearsals for the original production with the hokey reprise of "Small World" that Arthur cut for this production.
The song was unnecessary--and took away from the effect of "Rose's Turn" but it's a great curiosity piece and would probably sound great in Patti's voice.
