help me remember this musical name?

in the 1968-1975 range (probably) i saw a show in preview that may or may not have opened. i cannot remember the name.

the setting was a recording studio. this must have been at the height of donna summer's popularity, because the fact that a character had composed for her was a big deal. what was being recorded must have had some historical perspective because the only tune name i can recall is 1944.

one distinguishing feature is that the "control room" for the studio was located in the middle of the orchestra seating.

is there any recollection of this short-lived production?

i am certain about the control room feature (my wife had no recollection of the entire production, even though she had friends in it, and was doubting my senility).

it is possible the control room was in the orchestra pit (elevated, of course), rather than in orchestra seating, but the latter is the way i remember it.

oh, she has doubted my sanity for years, but you are correct, she was becoming CONVINCED of my senility.

i started down this path because i was playing a mix on my iPod that had a donna summers song and it caused me to think of this show.
