That's how I always watch. Well not eating pizza, though.

They have been doing this a few years even though their behavior (and dress) is often inappropriate. (A bunch started booing when WICKED lost the Tong award. Fortunately it can't be heard on the telecast.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I know last year they did a Tony lottery in front of the Times Square Tourist Center. I don't remember though if it was restricted to students or if anyone could enter it.
And, for what it's worth, I was just at a concert last week at Radio City Music Hall where I was sitting towards the rear of the last balcony and I thought that it wasn't a bad seat at all. I don't know the set up from inside there for the Tonys so I don't know if it is something that would be a bad seat for the Tonys but a pretty decent one for any other event.

It's been awhile (since 2001) that I went to the Tonys, but I sat in the second balcony for 100.00 (which was the 'going' rate of orchestra seats for shows at the time.)
The seats were FINE and you could see everything.

What do those tix go for? someone offered to order me some, but I have been afraid to ask the cost yet lol!! Are tickets sold to the public for that?

puckboy: last year they did not sell out until the day before the show. i've been to both the tonys and the gala at rock center quite a few times. gala tickets are around $300 each (i don't know the exact amount as my company buys them).
from someone who has been there, i wouldn't waste your money going to the tonys, i would just go to the gala. unless you are really close (which you won't be unless you are nominated or a presenter), you end up watching everything on the monitors, at which point you will say to yourself, i could just be watching this at home...
the gala however is really fun and are you quite literally rubbing elbows with broadway's finest.
