I was at Brooklyn Sat night the 19th.. this was my first time seeing the show and I had front row... they literally spit on me lol. SO CLOSE. Anyway, as you all are aware... Ramona as well as her understudy were sick, so Romelda was Paradice. Let me just say, this turned out to be a GREAT experience.
Eden as well as the rest of the cast came out in the beginning, and she told us about how the show must go on, this is live theater, we can coem back for free, etc etc.
Everyone was so supportive of Romelda, the audience loved her.
She did fantastic and I loved how she held the script.. it actually was so neat to witness how talented she was to learn the show in 4 hours! I talked to her afterward and she told me they called her at 11 while she was sleeping! This was her Broadway debut! She better get hired as a permanent understudy because she saved the show!
Anyway... I have the Brooklyn CD and I honestly thought I wasn't going to enjoy the show.. the CD kinda annoys me with the corniness. But once I was saw the show, it all came together. Everything worked, i loved it. the audience loved it.. they were cracking up.. The set, costumes, Eden crying like a baby, "Did I stutta!?", everything! This show is creative and fun and gets your feet tapping... i loved every minute of it... the cast gave it their all. The story was fun, the music was great.
Eden- SO much better live! She hit every note great, and her soft parts were beautiful. Never cracked or anything... the stage was hers.. I love her speaking voice too lol. When she was in the back, I noticed her coughing a few times and sneeze! She also cleared her throat a few times. I talked to her after and she said something about her voice being tired.. and everyone was like "it sure doesn't sound tired." it really didn't at all. if i didn't see her sniffing and coughing in the background, i wouldn't have known. she was incredible. i told her she desereved the tony, and she was like "yea right" or something along those lines. very humble and beautiful girl..
my second favorite was the Street Singer...Cleavant or whatever his name is. I heard everyone say he was annoying or whatever? He owned the stage, he was incredible. His stage presence and voice. I loved him. him and eden ROCKED on street singer...
Basically, everyone who hasn't seen Brooklyn and who wants something fun and short, got see this. I usually love deep shows like Caroline or Change, but I loved this show. I think Eden is remarkable as well as the rest of the cast. Romelda should take Ramona's place lol. When I saw Caroline Ramona was out as well! I think Romelda's voice was actually stronger than Ramona's and definitely not whiny like hers.
Another thing I noticed about the Sat show... Brooklyn in the blood went straight to eden belting cuz i've goooooooooooooooooot..... and Paradice's last song was cut. Love me where I live i think. I didn't even notice this because I havent seen the show before, but i did noticed brooklyn in the blood because it's my favorite song!
GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
