I was at Brooklyn Sat night the 19th.. this was my first time seeing the show and I had front row... they literally spit on me lol. SO CLOSE. Anyway, as you all are aware... Ramona as well as her understudy were sick, so Romelda was Paradice. Let me just say, this turned out to be a GREAT experience.
Eden as well as the rest of the cast came out in the beginning, and she told us about how the show must go on, this is live theater, we can coem back for free, etc etc.
Everyone was so supportive of Romelda, the audience loved her.
She did fantastic and I loved how she held the script.. it actually was so neat to witness how talented she was to learn the show in 4 hours! I talked to her afterward and she told me they called her at 11 while she was sleeping! This was her Broadway debut! She better get hired as a permanent understudy because she saved the show!
Anyway... I have the Brooklyn CD and I honestly thought I wasn't going to enjoy the show.. the CD kinda annoys me with the corniness. But once I was saw the show, it all came together. Everything worked, i loved it. the audience loved it.. they were cracking up.. The set, costumes, Eden crying like a baby, "Did I stutta!?", everything! This show is creative and fun and gets your feet tapping... i loved every minute of it... the cast gave it their all. The story was fun, the music was great.
Eden- SO much better live! She hit every note great, and her soft parts were beautiful. Never cracked or anything... the stage was hers.. I love her speaking voice too lol. When she was in the back, I noticed her coughing a few times and sneeze! She also cleared her throat a few times. I talked to her after and she said something about her voice being tired.. and everyone was like "it sure doesn't sound tired." it really didn't at all. if i didn't see her sniffing and coughing in the background, i wouldn't have known. she was incredible. i told her she desereved the tony, and she was like "yea right" or something along those lines. very humble and beautiful girl..
my second favorite was the Street Singer...Cleavant or whatever his name is. I heard everyone say he was annoying or whatever? He owned the stage, he was incredible. His stage presence and voice. I loved him. him and eden ROCKED on street singer...
Basically, everyone who hasn't seen Brooklyn and who wants something fun and short, got see this. I usually love deep shows like Caroline or Change, but I loved this show. I think Eden is remarkable as well as the rest of the cast. Romelda should take Ramona's place lol. When I saw Caroline Ramona was out as well! I think Romelda's voice was actually stronger than Ramona's and definitely not whiny like hers.
Another thing I noticed about the Sat show... Brooklyn in the blood went straight to eden belting cuz i've goooooooooooooooooot..... and Paradice's last song was cut. Love me where I live i think. I didn't even notice this because I havent seen the show before, but i did noticed brooklyn in the blood because it's my favorite song!
GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IveGottaBeMe, that may have been the best, most fun to read, review I've ever seen on this site. Nice.
Yes, it was very nice! I really hope the people on here don't attack you for it! Just ignore them if they do! Brooklyn was fun, I agree :)

i'm sorry for it being so long.. i was just so excited to post this... lol. i had an audition in NYC and Wicked has been sold out forever.. I got brooklyn before even reading everyone bashing it. I bought the Cd in advance because I heard Eden on the today show... thought some songs were good, but i thought a lot of the lines were corny. but seeing the show made me love it and made everything work. I loveddd how the cast just ran around and put everything together. the audience loved it. Standing ovation. i had a great time. and i think i'm in love with eden. her puppy was very cute.
About Ramelda or whatever her name is... after the show, everyone was saying how ramona better watch her back .. and she said something about their in talks to hire her as the understudy or something now. She was pretty great. That fast song she sings earlier in the show, she came in early like 3 times and kinda like laughed about it.. i think she was next to taylor collins...
QUESTION: In the program, it said that the other guy was on for Taylor. But I swear, it looked just like Kevin Anderson on stage. i was confused lol
Yea, Kevin left the show a few weeks ago I believe.
I know the show has bad reviews, but something just *draws* me to the show. I can't explain it. What are my chances of rush?

thanks for the warning about getting attacekd... but the thing is, i really don't care lol. I actually know people who won't post their positive reviews of Brooklyn because they're afraid to get attacked. I also hardly ever worry about spelling or grammar, its a freakin message board not a graded paper. I loved the show and want to see it again. It was great for what it is. I'd rather see a new original show then a boring book of little women anyday lol. For those who say Eden screeches, get your ears checked! Maybe they turn her mic down, but she sounded beautiful... I don't undestand why everyone critisized it for being corny... everything fell right together. they were telling a freaking story. the chemisty on stage was excellent. People laughed like crazy. I loved Eden crying like the baby lol. I loved watching them run around like fools putting stuff together and changing. Great live theater. I heard people off stage yelling for Ramelda a few times. I LOVED HAVING FRONT ROW. Cleavant is truly magnetic, i think he should get nominated as well as Eden. I'm sure Ramona was great too, but I loved Romelda.. in the middle of Raven, the audience was cheering. they loved her and everyone was impressed with how talented and proffesional she is. Whoever played Taylor was also great, and Karen shines and has such a beautiful beautiful voice.
oh ya.. theres always mid-song cheering during Raven after that long note! lol.. i love brooklyn too :) saw it two nights in a row :)

It's OK, I am not afraid to admit I love Wicked and the few songs I have heard from Bklyn...

When Ramelda came in early, it was during the really loud musical into part.. i don't even know what the song was called, it was the uptempo one, one of the first songs she sings.. i probably only noticed because iwas in front row.. you couldn't even hear it really, her mic was probably off or the music was too loud. but i just saw her like start twice, and then kevin told her to go and he was wrong lol so they like smiled... she was great though, the audience loved every moment of her.. the cast was so nice to her, she probably got hte most applause.. eden said something about this being her broadway debut and the crowd went wild. what a fun show :)
and the reason why my review is fun or whatever is because... i reviewed it as a person who wants to be entertained and have a good night. i'm not a critic who finds something wrong with everything. there were some parts that were better than others, and the show isn't a masterpiece, but it is fun, energetic and inspiring. what a talented cast.
What really baffles me is how people can enjoy something so infuriatingly mindless and slapdash. How is it that only a handfull of members on this board (plust the critics) see right through this show? It's so horrendously written that it's so confusing to me that people like it. But, I'm glad you did - someone's got to.

about eden.. i'm not sure if she was getting sick or not... when she coughing, it was when she was in the background and the smoke machine was on. she sneezed earlier though, and i saw her sniffing and kinda wipe her nose as well as clear her throat a few times lol. (the perks of having front row! my legs were soo cramped and squished into the stage) vocally, you could't tell at all that she was sick if she was. she sounded way better than the CD in my opinion. not as overbearing, and just very natural and fun and beautiful. I loved watching her mouth when she belted lol. Afterwards, I don't even know why she said she's been singing too much or something. I think itwas because i told her she needs to release a CD lol

Brookyln wasn't close to mindless. The Gates i mean orange curtains at Central Park were however lol..
Seriously, Bklyn was a fun show. just because it didn't have some great storyline doesn't make it mindless. it was very creative and unique... the costumes are just fascinating. the show was meant to be fun and magical, which it was. if mamma mia can still be on broadway, so can brooklyn. now that's mindless and BORING.. atleast Brooklyn has original music.
I've, don't worry about Munk, he's gotta get his hate fix. Let him rant.
"I've, don't worry about Munk?"
That doesn't make any sense. I'm not hateful, I'm honest. If I hate something, I say it. If I love something, I say it. What's the point of pretending that you like everything? And why don't you express your opinion of ANYTHING meritable on this board? Your only posts are in response to something I said that seems to really annoy you...and there's no need for that.
