Um. How can you say you didn't see it... and then continue to suggest why it would have been better if Fosse directed it... I don't get it. Um... but I kinda understand what you're saying. But, I think you're right in that it would have been different. That doesn't mean it would have been better. It would have been different. Off topic, but... Stanley Kubrick didn't like Schindler's List... saying famously "The Holocaust is about six million people who get killed. Schindler's List was about six hundred people who don't." I don't think he would have directed the movie... so... in that sense it would have been different. It would literally have been a different movie entirely.

Fosse would have revived Cabaret with Sam Mendes and it would have been less tame that it actually was.
He also may have done Spider Woman and The Life, however I think he might have wanted to concentrate on films.
And about the Chicago film-
It's a brilliant piece of filmmaking. All the people involved with its stage incarnations have praised it and most people, including Fosse's agent, have said he would have liked it very much.
The Chicago film is a far cry from brilliant... and has already shown up on several WORST OSCAR WINNERS OF ALL TIME LISTS. It's pretty common for people in showbiz to fellate each other especially if they've been paid. Also, many of these people would like to be cast again. So, I'm not sure how you can use their opinions to justify it's "brilliance" It is a pretty good adaptation of the musical. As far a piece of filmmaking... it's doesn't really hold it's own as one of the best movies of that year... let alone as one in the cannon of brilliant films

there ARE some shows that Fosse was not right for.
follies is/was one of them. lord no.
I think a Follies revival with Michael Bennet... this time in full control... would really have been something. Sigh.

yes. i agree... sort of...
i think Fosse would have done a "Contact" or "Movin Out" piece (wordless, all dance and music) but he would have done it on film first making these "new" productions blaise.
would he have worked well with matthew bourne?
think of how more wonderful "Fosse" would have been with the man actually at the helm, not saying Gwen and Ann didnt do magic, but...
Didn't Fosse do that with Dancin'? Or was that something different?
hey wickedfan, i said ON FILM!
Does anyone know why his original dances were not saved in the revivals of Sweet Charity, Cabaret, and the Pajama Game? It really is upsetting to even think about retooling shows that were allready mastered. I think that there was some legal messes between the producers of Cabaret and Reiking. And Sweet Charity (especiallh Big Spender) was a mess.
I really hope that most of the original Chorus Line (I know Fosse didn't do it) dances are kept preserved, or a gasket will be dropped by me, and hurled at those responsible.
End.
