i'm seeing it january 2nd and i LOVE the show because it just relates so much to my life (and others hehe) because i want to pursue theater professionally when i am out of school....and i know the whole drill of "how many people does he need..." etc lol

is it gonna disappoint me? i've heard so much mixed stuff....of course i did not see the original production on broadway, but is it really as bad as some have said? i've heard boring, not creative, etc....i know it was so innovative at the time. how come it isn't anymore? actors are still living the same "god i hope i get it" lives that they were when a chorus line originally came out.

but i want to be excited! someone tell me it's better than some of the ehhhh reviews it got lol

No, actually it is quite good, the dancing is better than the singing and acting, but the material holds up really well.

..and you get to look at my icon for 2 hours.. though, sadly, you are subjected to charlotte d'amboise's performance at the same time. You think that lady would be better at playing herself.. sadly, she isn't.. but Tyler hanes, Brad Anderson, Mara Davi, Jason Tam, Paul McGill, Ken Alan, Alisan Porter, Natalie Corez... more than make up for her!

I never saw the original run either, but I loved the revival. I suppose it's not as "innovative" as it once was because it's not brand new any more and this production is pretty much a copy of the original. However, it's still just as touching and relate-able as ever. I think you will love it.

The revival can't compare to the original...it doesn't even come close. You're better off listening to the original cast recording.

You should have a blast, the general concesis is, if you saw the original, its not that great, but if its your first time, its just wonderful!

See it, if for no other reason than the simple fact that a first class revival of ACL is unlikely for another 20 years after this one closes. It's better to see a photocopy than nothing at all.

Then root around a used CD store, find the OBC, and listen to what it's supposed to sound like.

You should go if you have the chance. I never tend to let reviews get to me, since we all like different things. Obviously you will not have the brilliance of Bennett, but it's a good production.

I say go...but then be sure and buy the OBC. I mean, it's a dance show after all, and the experience of seeing it live is of course better - particularly since, despite everything, the dancing in this revival is indisputably great.

I thought it was amazing. Then again, I didn't see ACL in the '70s so I had nothing to compare it to. Everyone's performance is amazing, they all sing and act quite well.

^ That was uncalled for, Danielm.

Singingshowgirl, you should go and form your own opinion, though. Some people here like it, some people don't. Hope you have a good time!

lol well i will definitely report my opinion back when i see it..plenty of times i have different opinions (i happen to not like celia as eponine), so i do not rely on the opinions of others...but i love to hear other opinions....should be interesting. i am excited since coming home to NY to see shows was pretty much the only reason that i was pumped for winter break (i go to school in philly which has great theater, but not QUITE the same haha).

I think that it's not as "innovative" now because perhaps the subject matter was more controversial in the 70s. I'm not sure if the script has been changed (and I think it hasn't), but I believe that if they had changed it, they might want to include something "innovative" that relates to our time, like, maybe someone's sibling being in the war or something. You know, something that is up-to-date and controversial. Let's face it, pain killers and homosexuality are just...pase'.

I loved it. My favorites were Deidre Goodwin, Mara Davi, Natalie Cortez, Chryssie Whitehead, Jessica Lee Goldwyn and the guy who plays Mike (sorry forgot his name)

No, it's really that good. Like many of the folks here, I didn't see the original production, just the movie. Thank Buddha the movie made me appreciate this revival more. I thought Natalie Cortez has an amazing voice and her "What I Did for Love" blending with the ensemble was outstanding. Charlotte wasn't that bad, just didn't like her solo dance. It was too long for a choreography that was bland. The rest of the cast were good as well. Mara, Jessica, Tony, Michael, Chryssie, and Jeffrey stood out from my recollection. Aside from Charlotte's solo dance, the lack of intermission was my only critique.

here was my problem with this revival (and p.s. you should go see it, and like everyone tends to be saying, form your own opinion :)

dancing: fine
singing: ok
acting: ...yikes...
One would think this would be the EASIEST show on the PLANET to connect with (especially if you're out there auditioning like everyday!!) I felt like none of the actors (except maybe Mara and a few others) were committed...it didn't feel charged...and I never saw the original. STILL TOTALLY GO SEE IT! I know I'm contradicting myself, but maybe you'll absolutely love it
