I wouldn't go that far
I thought Piazza and DRS did a good job.
DRS was ok but the song they picked was not the right one to do.
They are all bad cuts of the shows.
Yeah they had to edit out a lot of words. lol.
i loved the DRS and La Cage and Piazza. great big stuff showcased norbie but they shouldve done dirty rotten number. wouldve been wayyy better!
well i really think that drs did a great number, and it really showed norbie off and what he is capable of doing.Thats why he won best actor, and use comoon sense people broadway producers wouldnt have picked a bad number from the show to go on the tonys. And i really dont think any number in broadway musicals today is bad,IF IT WAS BAD WHY WOULD IT BE CALLED BROADWAY.And i really dont think the producers care what we have to say cause there the ones making the money not us.So a word to posters THINK BEFORE U TYPE.
Everything performend tonight was amazing (except 1) but im not going to name it .And dirty rotten number has been done for everything(early show, late show) so they needed to so something new.Piazza did amazing and was great that they pulled it off.And so what if gary didnt perform ,go see the freakin show if you want to see him, they needed a big show stopping number and thats what it was.Spamelot was awesome even though sarah was sick, she sounded great. And none of them were bad cuts of the shows, thats ure opinion yes.But think ,WOULD THE PRODUCERS PUT IT ON IF IT WAS BAD???????????????????NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I loved La Cage, Spamalot, and DRS. It was completely satisfying.
La Cage dragged a BIT for me... twas some amazing choreography, though. And, yeah. I was waiting for "I Am What I Am" and was majorly confused when it didn't show up.
DRS was actually a GREAT performance. It started things off very well. But it made me laugh especially hard for ONE thing: Norbert messed up "Really classy ****" line. You could see it in his eyes too. Like he SUDDENLY realized that they'd changed it for the telecast and he very quickly corrected himself.

i don't know about anyone else in here, but as i watched la cage [and coveted the choreography as i would my neighbor's wife] my best friend {also a girl} and i both bemoaned how pretty and flexible the dancers were (i'm a dancer, but they were amazing!). boy, did i ever feel silly when i remembered they were boys..
the performance was immensely entertaining, though.
hellacoolmichael, i concur.

All of the performances seemed to lack the magic of seeing them live and in context. DRS seemed to work a little better than most, and the bleeps, I think, just added interest, and in Spamalot as well.
As for LaCage, I'm glad they chose to feature les Cagelles. They are the stars of this show!
I was very disappointed with the performance. I would have preferred that they didn't so much of the can-can dance and did more the finale of the song with the acrobatics and Zaza on the swing. I think that's more impressive (or interesting).

I thought most of the clips from the musicals were awful. These shows have a 3-4 minute chance to show off their 2 1/2 hour extravaganzas to the world LIVE. You would think they would present something that would make the guy sitting at home sit up and say: "Yeah! I'd pay $100 bucks to see that show!" If that was the best moments from DRS and Piazza, I'll pass.
Then there was Robert Goulet reading his one line, almost directly from a show he performs in 8 times a week, from a teleprompter (and reading it badly). Now, after killing the box office on Broadway he might tour. The producers from this show are idiots.
I found almost all of the performances to be incredibly boring. I liked SPAMALOT's performance, and SWEET CHARITY's entertained me. PIAZZA's was good, but incredibly boring. SPELLING BEE's was not funny, draging, and sleep-inducing. DRS's was decent, and LA CAGE's made me want to leave the room. What's up with this?!
The segment they chose looked like an out of control all skate.
Between the performance I saw a few months ago on the Today show and last night's brief appearance on the Tony's, Gary Beach looks extremely uncomfortable and wrong in the role.
"...Gary Beach looks extremely uncomfortable in the role."
I thought that too. A drag queen would never walk the way he does in heels and the masculine actions with his arms was the epitome of booger drag.
Actually I thought "Bee" did the best. And having Al Sharpten was kind of cool.

I dunno 'bout you guys, but I couldn't understand a word they were singing in the Piazza number.
Were there some women mixed in with the male Cagelles?

I wondered that, too. It didn't look entirely like the Cagelles I saw either.

Oh..you made it crystal clear.
