Chip On My Shoulder - It's all about how Elle realizes that she needs to do WELL in law school if she wants to earn respect for herself and from Warner..just getting into law school wasn't enough. She hardcore befriends Emmit and he helps her.

Bend and Snap -...it's the Bend and Snap. Paulette earns self-esteem by doing the move and attracting men.

Bend and Snap is the "workout self-esteem routine" taught to Paulette by Elle in the movie. She claims that it helps get guys. lol.

I have no idea what Chip on My Shoulder means. I've heard the song but no clue. lol.

Do you mean their meanings in the context of the show or an interpretive meaning of the songs themselves?

For those who haven't seen the show or movie, these two parts might be a little spoilerish, fair warning.

Chip on My Shoulder in the show is basically the part where the relationship between Elle and Emmett gets cemented. She learns by his example of busting his ass to get through law school with the chip on his shoulder (his cross to bear) that her life isn't over just because she lost Warner. She doesn't need to be the ditzy blonde model anymore and she decides to prove to others that she can make something of herself.

I'd say the same thing for Paulette in Bend and Snap. This time though it's Elle inspiring Paulette to be assertive and get what she wants, Kyle. By doing the bend and snap, she can attract the guy she's been pining for from the first time we see the salon. The whole show seems to be about inspiring others, and I think these are two of the big songs that do that.
