Looks like whoever thought this was a good idea should be shot.
In an asylum? HORRIBLE idea.

now now. by looking at the pics i could tell they are young people (probably in high school). and maybe the story relates to them in a different way. I don't think that this should be judged but seen for itself..like any other piece of artwork.
to say something is horrible without seeing it for yourself is kinda like shooting yourself in the foot.
i commend this for breathing new life into something dated. and for spawning creativity and inspiring a sense of birth.
i didn't see this for myself,..but kudos for trying.
I think we should all be positive and give good energy to creation.
Especially to today's youth.
After watching the film 'showbusiness' the other day...i totally understand why 'critics' should be shot,...not the people who are creating.
'critics' are the same people who are bringing this form of theatre down.
no offense spider,...but i have to disagree with you on this.
I think if young people are trying to break the mold in different ways...go for it.
I would rather have gone to see this than a production of 'high school musical' or 'grease' any other day.
I think it looks interesting. I'm not sure how the idea would work, but still, it looks really interesting. And, visually, it looks quite good.
:)
happy day

Well there's no way to see the production now is there? So you post pictures, solicit comments then complain when the feedback is not positive?
Personally, I'm curious and would have loved to see the show. I'm not crazy about the white on white color scheme but it seems like they did a lot with lights and projections. I suppose setting it in an asylum would finally make the book seem logical.
The lighting is exquisite, and I can see how you would need the white on white to make it all work. Personally, I think the concept could work pretty well, although it would be a radical retake. Still, if one of the creators liked it, who are we to tell him it was wrong to try this?
HAIR isnt an easy show to do because there's so little there to work with. It looks like this one had a great deal of thought and care put into the production.
This looks like a cheap copycat production of the already God awful version they did at NYU this past academic year.
It looks like an interesting production to me. The possibility of reviving Hair on Broadway has been discussed on this board several times, usually ending with the conclusion that trying to copy the original production would seem silly and uneffective. Something totally different such as this would have to be the basis. I'd be interested in seeing more of this.
I saw NYU's. totally different. in SO many ways. this one made sense! lol!
Well, yeah, I have no idea how this one unfolded, but the aesthetic looks like it was pulled right from that production: the all-white, the lighting. Hell...I kept saying that the NYU production looked like it took place in a mental institution. Perhaps somebody involved in this production saw the NYU one? The similarity looks uncanny.

I have seen Hair many times and was lucky to perform in the show for a two month run. The most effective, I belive, is when it is played as real. The abstract versions never seem to fully connect and end up falling a bit flat.
As such, I loathed the recent NYU version set in an insane asylum. There were so many things they blatently missed/cut. The piece lost all love and became quite the anger fest.
