Posted: 4/29/04 at 8:40pmI get so sick of people thinking an actor is limited to one role. The latest being Megan M. as Glinda - apparently because the character of Karen bears a vague resemblence to Kristen Chenoweth's tired and overworked schtick. I have seen both actors in concert and believe me there was not a trace of Karen or Chenoweth's trademark delivery in either performance. They are both extremely talented and VERSITLE performers!

Posted: 4/29/04 at 8:53pmThanks for the support on this one! Sometimes I think people will be disappointed Sutton Foster's Jo won't be doing the charleston in Little Women. Oh well, at least her hair cut is an element in both scripts!

It's funny, but as I watched W & G tonight I thought of Megan for Glinda also. Kristin's interp. is amazing, but I think she would bring something fresh and original without changing the basic essence of the character. She would definitely be a box office draw. (at least for me)

Posted: 4/30/04 at 9:16amYes - but what about all those posts about actors being too old to play Glinda? - I don't agree at all - and Megan MUST be pushing 40, so I say - let her play the part!

Posted: 4/30/04 at 9:43amsee i think her take on Glinda would be quite different. I think it would be great to see her in the role. I love her and this she is great!

Actually, she turns 46 this year. And boy does she ever look good for it.

Posted: 4/30/04 at 10:02amyeah - I'm amazed that she's older than me...I actually was being kind in my post and really thought she must be about my age (42)...but yeah - she looks great!
#10re: re: re: megan mullaley
Posted: 4/30/04 at 10:30amI would love to see her tear it up as Mama Rose!

Although Ms. Mullaley looks 'good for her age', she doesn't look like a college student. Hell, she probably didn't look like a college student in college!
Now...her Charlotte in NIGHT MUSIC might be spectacular.

Posted: 4/30/04 at 10:48am...see...this is one of the big problems with the media right now - with movies and TV becomming so standard and such a daily (hourly) obsession with the public, its no longer easy for an older person to play younger because of all the filmed realism in your face 24/7 - but we need to remember that there's a reason it is called THEATRE...theatrical - not reality...Let a 46 year-old play the damned role if she's got the goods!LOL!

I agree. Megan would be great. I adore her, both as Karen and in other roles. And not for anything, but Kristin doesn't look like a college student, either. :)
I can only hope I look as good as Megan when I'm 46.

But there's a difference, red, between being 46 and coming across too old for the part...and it has very little to do with looks. I saw a 26-year-old who was too old to play Emily in OUR TOWN...not because she looked too old...but she was too worldly...too knowing. I always played older men in college because I just wasn't young...I always have read older. Not because I look older...it's just a quality I have (which has made it very difficult to be cast, by the way...I just have to bide my time till the outside catched up with what I present to the world.)
And why Megan Mullaley should want to play a shallowly-written part in a mediocre musical has still yet to be explained!

Posted: 4/30/04 at 11:48amuh - robbie - she plays a shallow part every week on tv...whats the difference???LOL....BTW...I've suffered the same fate my entire lift - I was playing old men when I was 17 and have right up to a couple of years back. Casting people keep telling me (or did, a few years back) that my voice didn't match my looks yet...so I figure if I start auditioning again in my late 40s I might finally be able to play an adult somewhere near my real age...LOL...Let Megan play the part! I think she has all the Galinda qualities (not that I'd rush back to see her do it...I hate the show, itself) But I think she'd bring a great quality to the role if she can sing it. anywhoo - its all just talk right now, isn't it...and by the way - good luck with Picasso...

Hi everyone, I usually sit back and read your often funny posts and I've gathered a lot of great info from you. So thanks. I do have suggestion though...how about Ms. Mullally as Vera Charles opposite Patti Lupone in MAME. It would be a dream come true.
Keep on posting...you all make my day go by so much faster.

Posted: 4/30/04 at 11:55amhmmm -= thats an interesting thought - specially since I think Patti can do no wrong...

I love Patty...love her to death...but...she's a little blowsy for MAME.
PS I strive to be blowsy every day of my life!!!

Posted: 4/30/04 at 12:02pmOMG...Blowsy, that's just hysterical. I'm not sure of how she might act the part but I would cut off an arm to hear her sing that score!

Well...it's hard to do because it will sound prejorative. And I do not mean it in that way at all. But to me, blowsy means you're a little coarse, not particularly high-class, a good-time gal.

Posted: 4/30/04 at 12:05pmHmmm - well after having seen her in Can Can - I think she could pull off the role....I'd give her credit for trying it, at least and agree that hearing her sing it would be heaven.

I know that no one made a point to write this....and I mean this in the nicest of ways....it's MULLALLY.
It would be interesting to see her in any show but in Wicked -that'd be definately worth seeing. No doubt she's got an amazing voice, and definately do not look her age....anyone see the her opening of SNL when she hosted? The woman's in amazing shape. Get her back onstage already!
