A guy from Aerosmith (can't remember which one at the moment) was eating at the table behind me in this restaraunt by Hershey Park. I had to get up and go to the bathroom and I tripped over my shoelace.

Not fun.

I get lost, unless, of course, I'm getting found.

Meeting Marc Kudisch....
Stage Door @ Millie...
HE got to me to sign my PLAYBILL....my hand was shaking so badly I could barely hand the pen to him...he chuckled and I said "I'm sorry I've just waited SO long to meet you " and he said "Aww that's so sweet, well come on then gimme a hug" and I said "No I can't!" and he said "YEs you can!" and I said "NO honestly, I'll throw up on you" ...everyone around us laughed and he thought it was funny too....and we hugged sans vomit. It was a special moment...I was also sunbunrt on ONE SIDE of my body from having the ONE half of my arms and face out the window of the car that day.....I was pretty "special" looking!
A friend of mine was in INTO THE WOODS..the revival and one night I was waiting for him outside and Christopher Seiber walked out and I was trying to say to MYSELF "you are so hot"...INSTEAD I said it rather LOUDLY and he heard me....I wanted to DIEEEEEEEE! Luckily when I was actually introduced to him later we laughed!
And finally....on a trip with my Governor's School theater scholars a few years ago, I promised them that if they stayed with me we'd spot a celeb...I usually have no problem finding at least 3 a day....well for some reason I was having a drought this day and all my friends were OVER me! So we went to STARBUCKS and were in line....infront of us???
LAURA BENANTI!
I was like "OMG you're cinderella"
she smiled and was so excited we all knew her! and I was like "F you all I f'in found CINDERELLA!" my language was a bit much but I was just SO thrilled, Laura got a kick out of it. Now that I know her personally she and I laugh that THAT is the first time we met.

This is not my story of embarrassment but I will tell it anyway since my friend lives in the U.K. and never reads these boards.

I was with another friend escorting my U.K. friend around town during a visit to NYC. We stopped at a bakery for coffee and a rest at a sidewalk table and while I was paying, my U.K. friend saw Nathan Lane coming out of the store. My co-host for the day attempted to stop her in her tracks, but in spite of my best efforts, our U.K. buddie remains a star stalker to this day, and that day she took the opportunity to run up to Lane and google about how much she LOVED him. Everyone who has had an encounter with Lane knows that he is very shy and can be panicy, nasty or nice depending on your approach and the circumstances under which you find him. My heart was in my mouth...my U.K. friend kept saying over and over 'Oh, Robin Williams...Mr. Williams...I loved you in The Birdcage'. Though Lane tried to get away from my shrieking friend who was attracting attention, she would not let go of his arm and kept inisisting that he sign an autograph...so he did. But of course he signed his OWN name...not the name of his co-star Robin Williams. Without missing a beat, my friend looked at the autograph book, looked up at Lane and said 'I can't read this'. Politely, Lane said 'I think you have me confused with someone else...I'm not Robin Williams...'. My friend pushed the autograph book back at Lane and said 'yes you are...now sign your name RIGHT this time'

He mumbled something obscene under his breath and walked away. Considering her behavior, she's lucky she didn't end up in the gutter with her croissant shoved down her throat!

Oh my GOD she did NOT!

I had too many pints of cider when seeing Cloer to Heaven in London and got tongue-tied when talking to Sandra Bernhard. All I could say was, "Feel...feel...feel..." I don't remember what I was trying to say, but I'm sure I thought it was something very witty. Sandra put her hand on my shoulder and said, "Oh honey.....I do feel. I do." I was mortified. I don't have more than one drink before or during a show any more, just in case.

I was working on Godsend and found myself blankly staring at DeNiro without realizing it, until he caught my eye and winked at me.
I almost died.

Not my embarrassing moment, but Jeffry Tambor stepped on my foot during the ballroom scene in Eloise at the Plaza!

OMG Sam, what a story! Poor Nathan! And your UK friend was very lucky to walk away without injuries. re: most embarrassing moment in front of a famous person And you must have felt totally helpless - it's like watching an accident about to happen and being completely useless to prevent it!

I've been known to embarrass famous people (Joey McIntyre, Matt Caplan), but I can't really say I've really embarrassed myself. My friend was asked by Adam Pascal if she was okay (because she was shaking so bad) and he & I laughed at her quite a bit. Thaaaaat's about it. I suck.

I was at the gay life expo yesterday, at the booth BKLYN had set up, helping the show with publicity, and someone came that looked really familiar. So as I'm talking, I recognise her, so I ask "...are you in a show?" not wanting to sound stupid in case it wasn't who I thought it was. She says yes, so I say "Bare!" It was Natalie Joy Johnson. I just felt really silly, but she was really nice and we talked for a bit about Bare, BKLYN, Bryant Park, etc, so I didn't feel *that* dumb.

You know it and you want it... you just can't believe you've got it.

I saw BKLYN (for $26 rush tickets!) and after buying the tickets, I saw Kevin Anderson (Taylor Collins) on the street. Later on, I was at the stage door and my friend said to Cleavant Derricks, "We saw you on the street before!" LOL... I was like "No, that was Kevin Anderson!" and I felt really stupid, haha. Especially because they look nothing alike.

Recently I saw that guy who played the Emcee in Cabaret originally and he pushed me out of the way and took my cab! So I stopped him and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and I grabbed him, elbowed him in the face smashed the back of his head against a fire hydrant and smashed his hand in the cab door.

Then I saw that guys picture in the paper as being out of some musical for a while. Serves him right.

When I met Reese Witherspoon on the set for "Sweet Home Alabama", I dident know exactly how to start up a conversation with her. So I said," You were in Legaly Blond wernt you?" I feel kind-of stupied about that now. She was REALLY sweet to me though.re: most embarrassing moment in front of a famous person

Years ago I saw the opening night of King Lear at the Old Globe in San Diego (Robert Sean Leonard and Hal Holbrook were starring.) So Kenneth Branaugh and Keanu Reeves (who'd recently starred in Much Ado About Nothing with Robert Sean) were there to see their pal. So I kind of stalked them during intermission--just for surveillence, really. And then after the performance they were waiting for him and I was just DYING b/c I adore Kenneth Branaugh--but really didn't think too much of Keanu--but they were standing together. So after some prodding from my mother I went up to them and stammered something about how much I admired both of their work and I was a theatre major and, um, er, could I have their autographs. (I mean, what could I say, "Hi Kenneth, you're a genuis. Hi Keanu, you're a tool?") Just to add, Kenneth looked very dapper, and Keanu looked like a homeless person they'd picked up on the street--I mean, dirty army pants, combat boots, etc.... this WAS '93 and grunge was in, but come on. Anyway, Kenneth could not have been more charming, reached out his hand to introduce himself and said, "hello, I'm Ken." (*swoon!*) And then KEANU (try to hear this in a total Ted voice) I guess trying to be funny?? reaches out his hand and says, "Hi, I'm Matt Matthews?????"

I mean, what?! I guess I was embarrassed b/c I was being a dorky groupie and I was all by myself--there wasn't a crowd or anything. But it was also odd b/c this huge celebrity was acting like such an Ass!

When I saw Ave. Q and everyone was SO gracious and lovely after the show, as Rick Lyon was signing my program, I sputtered something about how "wow, you're the designer too, that's CRAZY!" And he said, "yeah. crazy."

Glad to share my humiliations. As you were.
