On My Own. If you walk down the hall of my school, you can hear fifty different people singing it at the same time.
Also all the new stuff from Millie, Aida, Urinetown, and Wicked. And the movie of Chicago sparked the use of All That Jazz again...
I'm curious, what do people here think about women singing I Am What I Am from La Cage? I heard a girl perform it for her senior recital a few weeks ago but didn't know much about the song until I saw it in La Cage the other day. I'm still trying to make up my mind up as to how I feel about it.

On My Own and anything from Wicked. Some of Rent is overdone but not horribly overdone. And where I go, Millie isn't too overdone.

I'm not sure what's horribly overdone, but for my one HS audition, a lot of my chorus friends told me not to do Disney.

Would you consider 'I Believe In You' from H2$ overdone?

We are doing Les Mis this year, so On My Own... is definitely being overdone
as for the newer musicals (aka Wicked, Aida... which I know is not new, and it is over)... we haven't reached there yet

I think we've all heard our fair share of teenage girl trios butcher 'Matchmaker'

What I Did For Love. I had a friend who was involved in casting. He told me that as soon as he and his colleagues heard the line, "Kiss today goodbye...," they would sing quietly to each other, "Kiss the role goodbye...."
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"

I think the idea of girls singing "I Am What I Am" is good, as long as they can do it justice. Linda Eder does an amazing job with it.

If I never hear a singer earnestly pour herself into 'Meadowlark' again be it in concert or on record I'll be a very happy person.

Hmmm...
Definitely agree with 'On My Own' - although the theme of loving someone from afar while he loves someone else is a theme that runs through many, many adolescent girls (at the very least, in their minds).
'Gimme Gimme' - definitely done alot as of late, and done rather poorly
'Popular' - of all the overdone songs, I think this is one that is overdone, and overdone very poorly
'Defying Gravity' - see 'On My Own' - the theme that applies here is the idea of being held down, blah blah blah
'Memory'
'I Dreamed a Dream' - to a lesser extent
'Think of Me'
'Seasons of Love' - overdone by choruses

Just adding some meaningless info, but whenever I used it to audition, barely anyone knew what the song was or where it was from. Interestingly, our superintendent used it in her speech for commencement (resulting in me, sitting in plain view of everyone, almost falling out of my chair).

On My Own. Oh My God. No more. No more.
What do you guys mean by "overdone"? Like overhyped, or overused at auditions?
Oh yeah, like, anything from POTO.

On My Own has to be number one. I haven't heard anyone do Memory or What I Did For Love in over ten years, so maybe it was overdone a long time ago, but I think most people have wised up. What I do hear at nearly every audition is Anthem from Chess, Maria from West Side Story and One Song Glory from Rent. Tenors really need to find some imagination.

Lea Salonga sang ON MY OWN for her audition song for MISS SAIGON. Little did she know that she would actually be singing that song onstage years later.
Colm Wilkinson was supposed to have sung ANTHEM when he auditioned for LES MISERABLES.
Have many sung THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM too often, too?
