most overdone song

A few years ago, all the boys in my school sang impossible dream...it wasn't pleasant for anyone.
We just had auditions for Sweeney and History of the American Film, and it seemed like either a boy did "You Must Meet My Wife" from Night Music, or "Giants in the Sky" from Into The Woods. Oddly enough, the girls all sang different things which I don't remember happening before, but I think we've all become so competitive we refuse to sing what someone else is!
ooo what we do without the audition process?!

I just played auditions a couple of months ago for a college show. "Popular" was definitely, um, popular. I've also heard a couple of people sing "Gimme Gimme" and "Mister Cellophane."
O GOSH!!! "GOOD MORNING, BALTIMORE"!!! Please, no more!
And "I'M NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING"!!! Love the song, but please, no more at an audition! Almost every single belter I know or heard of has sung this for an audition. Good song, but please, it's overdone! Ah!
A lot of people have been singing Jason Robert Brown at my school (including me), and I think he's a fresh yet not overdone songwriter. Except "I'm Not Afraid of Anything!"

Posted: 11/27/04 at 6:11pmFrenchie really killed "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" (in a good way). I've never heard a good audition of "Don't Rain On My Parade". Especially the ones sung with fake vibrato. Ugh.

Posted: 11/27/04 at 7:51pmHow funny! I had no idea people did "Part of Your World" for auditions. I would just laugh the whole time. It's just totally the song that all us girls belted at the top of our lungs in 2nd grade!
re: most overdone song#37
Posted: 11/27/04 at 8:06pmI think I actually read some statistic somewhere that "don't cry for me Argentina" was the most overdone song done for auditions... which makes sense, It's a great song but overexposure just makes it too popular and therefore, people kill it!

Posted: 11/27/04 at 10:01pma bad rendition of "on my own," which at auditions i have heard TOO many times, makes me want to pull out each strand of hair on my head. one by one. I can't stand hearing a bad rendition of it, as im sure many of you would agree.

Posted: 11/27/04 at 10:24pmThe last couple of college auditions I have been to many of the girls sang "Defying Gravity" (of coarse) and "Life of the Party" from Andrew Lippa's Wild Party. And then "Corner of the Sky" was a popular one for the guys. Updated On: 11/27/04 at 10:24 PM

Posted: 11/27/04 at 10:26pmDeven May sung Anthem for his Batboy audition. The girl who got the lead in my cast of My Fair Lady did Loverly from the show (she didn't have a song prepared). About 5 people on my NYSSMA level did Far From the Home I Love (my song!) For the talent show at camp, numerous people auditioned with What Is This Feeling.

Posted: 11/27/04 at 11:34pmYeah, I reckon it used to be stuff like Memory and Don't Cry for me Argentina, and now everyone does Wicked, Millie, etc. At High School tho, EVERYONE does Disney. When we did Little Shop of Horrors earlier this year about 5 people sung Colours of the Wind and at least that many did Part of Your World
