Jersey Boys received rave reviews Off-B'way and is heading to the Virginia this fall.
Mariah Carey has announced she's writing a musical from the songs (and some new tunes, as well) on her Christmas album.
A Ray Charles musical similar to that of the film 'Ray' is in the works with Pulitzer-Prize winning Suzan Lori-Parks penned to write the book.
The Bob Marley jukebox musical is in the works and should hit the theater scene sometime next year.
Carole King has been said to be working on a musical and, from what I've heard, the material is to be that of her already released music. So, I'm assuming it will be a jukebox musical as well instead of all new material.

What is going on with the Dusty Springfield musical?
How about "What's Love Got to Do With It-The Musical!" Ha ha, but may actually not be too bad.

Yes, Kristin is starrting in the Dusty Springfield movie. But I haven't heard anything about a theater project.
There was a lot of talk eariler on this threat about Michael Jackson, but I think that his music would work better as a dance production like Movin' Out.

The Monkees!! .... yeeeeeeah...
In re: Beatlemania- it was pretty much sued out of existance, if I'm remembering this right. Something about it being a nice long-running hit until they tried to record a cast album of it. It was at that point that Apple (company that owned the rights to Beatles tunes) made a stink and the lawsuits started to fly. You can still see Beatlemania, though... in the form of "tribute bands" sprinkled throughout the country. There are literally dozens upon dozens... which might also have something to do with a lack of a Broadway revival.

Posted: 8/25/05 at 12:56amWell as much as I hate to think about it... the day will come when someone trying to ruin musical theatre as we know it will wake up one day thinking "You know what'd be great- a Broadway musical with the songs of the Beatles"

I'm bumping this up...sorry.
If we had another jukebox musical, how would you like to see the songs incorporated into the show? With a random plot like Mamma Mia or All Shook Up? In a dance show like Movin' Out? Or perhaps in a biographical musical like Jersey Boys?

out of about the 300ish songs of madonna they were only 3 or 4 she diddnt write so i dont think that would be the problem.Though she has already been asked in the uk press if she would ever allow her songs to be used in a jukebox musical and she said no(though she is writing a musical for the west end at the moment).
The next one in the uk is a musical using the songs of the group UB40 i dont know if u know who they are in the states though

I'm amazed to hear that Kristin Chenoweth is starring in a Dusty Springfield biopic, because Dusty Springfield had a very distinct and beautiful deep mezzo/alto tone and Kristin sounds like Betty Boop. However, I will try to keep an open mind because I like Kristin...I just don't currently see her as Dusty. Maybe they should dub Mary J. Blige's voice into the film. She's got the perfect Dusty voice.
I believe the Bee Gees and the Beatles would each make a great Jukebox musical. The drugs, the split-ups, the girlfriends, the overdoses, the paparazzi, Ed Sullivan, the illnesses, the deaths. Generally, I don't like the idea of the Jukebox musical. However, it gets people interested in Broadway who would otherwise never have gone to a show. Plus I really had a fantastic time at MAMA MIA and my friends tell me that JERSEY BOYS is great. It looked great on the Tony's.
So what...I sing

The Bee Gees has Saturday Night Fever out.
I think a musical using all Elton John stuff could be fun, even though his shows use some of his music.
Or, I think a Van Halen Musical would be really really interesting.

The Village People in "Still Can't Stop The Music!".
They can redo "Can't Stop The Music" for Broadway and add all the Village People songs to the existing score!

Posted: 6/26/06 at 11:45amThe new Richard Maltby directed musical called, "The 60's Project" which will have it's premiere at The Norma Terris Theatre at Goodspeed this summer. I think this has been in workshop/ reading phase for the past four years. I saw a recent workshop of it this fall and I thought it was good and very moving at times. It needed some work and apparantely they did retooling on the story some more with an new book writer and it's very good now. I am going to check it out over the summer. We'll see.
