the birthday cake that was delivered to the daughter at the end of the musical had what significance? my friend and i had a different interpretation.
wasnt it the daughters birthday and the dad finally did something normal for her? or that the dad was going a little nuts and had the cake for the dead son
Hm, the second interpretation you mentioned never once crossed my mind. I took it to show that Natalie was finally getting the attention she deserved, as opposed to the earlier birthday cake scene.
If the Dad was bringing out a cake for Gabe, I don't think Henry and Natalie would react in any of the ways I've seen multiple performers react. Definitely Natalie's birthday.
I never really thought about that scene. Maybe it's the fact that the Goodman's lives (minus Diana) is finally on a semi "normal" track and they are accepting it and moving on.
I don't think it's supposed to be them living "normal" lives--after all, Natalie just said that she's okay with not quite being normal. I think that it's just showing them moving on with their lives. Not really that different, but I don't think the reason is to be normal.
