A friend and I (who went to drama school in London a LONG time ago) are beginning to plan an early summer trip. I remember some of you kindly making accommodation suggestions pre-pandemic and we'd appreciate any advice you might have. Don't mind being a bit out of centre but not way out.
Most of this is pre-covid information (2019) an a little in July 2021:

We always stay at the Ritz- and the prices are really not so bad. It is a few blocks from the theater district- and right near the park that takes you straight across to Buckingham Palace- and from there into the heart of historical London- including Parliament and Westminster Abbey- if you can afford to splurge a little- this is the hotel to do it at. It really makes the London experience special- and with the great theater at your doorstep- what else could a theater person want?

I tend to stay for longer periods so I book an airbnb room. But when I do book a hotel, it's usually a Travelodge or Premier Inn. They are modern and have everything you need and are so much more inexpensive than any other major hotel prices I have actually ever seen in any other city! The more inexpensive ones are outside of the city centre (West End) but the tube and train system here is so good you really don't mind (usually not more than a 25 minute ride)! Plus, it's fun to experience the gorgeous London neighborhoods a lot of these hotels are situated in.
