alrighty. Is it just me or does the majority of "Wicked" audiences cry their eyes out during "For Good"? When I saw it back in April, I couldn`t stop. And yes, as a teenage guy, I will admit it. My best friend and I were fighting and that song reminded me of our friendship. We changed each other lives, but we weren`t sure if it was good or not,but we know we will never be the same now that we know each other. So yea... also two other things- was it just me or does Shoshana tend to sound like Michael Jackson at points throughout her singing? And this just crossed my mind, but what if they cast a man to be an Elphaba u/s? that would be odd.

Mostly WICKED attracts teen and preteen girls with its lesbian undertones, but I suppose gay guys would find it moving as well.
I hope you and your friend were able to resolve your differences.
Maybe I'm more jaded. I wasn't moved at all by the song. It's pretty though not demandingly memorble. For me WICKED was a fun show but not a great one.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Lesbian undertones? That's almost like that reviewer in Chicago who said it had historical/Holocaust undertones, or something. And why would lesbian undertones suddenly be so attractive to the masses of teenage girls?
I think the song's ability to be moving is a bit dependent on age/experience, though. I saw Wicked at the beginning of my senior year of high school, so (yes, I'm admitted this) throughout the year, I did find "For Good" to be a bit emotional and resonant. The lyrics certainly aren't the most beautiful or poetic I've ever heard, but the idea of the song was certainly an emotional one at that point in my life.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 10:22ami agree with emcee. i saw in the end of 2004. I was a freshman in college and my best friend had moved away to california in the beginning of july. and my other best friend moved to massachusetts. it's not the most poetic song or most "beautiful", but it hit home to me and i thought of these two friends.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 1:00pmThat sucks, guys. It`s not fun when a friend moves away and you either have little or not contact at all,but I hope you all did. Oh and by the way, if my post "confused" you a little bit with my being open about how that song makes me feel, I`m not gay lol. What can I say? Theatre is my life and (no offense to any),but we all know that guys who are into these things are naturally different than your sports stars.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 1:08pmLovie, I cried when Kristin sang it at Carnegie Hall. It's a pretty song and I'll admit, I'm a loser for it. For me, if there is good acting, I'll cry. Like, if they cry well, I'll cry with them. That being said, I've never seen the show so..

Posted: 6/14/05 at 1:14pmGranted that the song isn't the most poetic but that doesn't matter. The words are simple but emotive and true. The chorus is a little corny but the thoughts that are envoked by it are honest and touching. I personally think this is a fantastic song... not enough to make me cry, but very touching!

Posted: 6/14/05 at 1:34pmI agree with Em, I actually quoted the song in my graduation speech. I know a couple of high schools who sang the song at graduation. For me, it's just a song where if y ou really think about the message, in its simplicity, it just seems to mean a lot.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 4:02pmNo crying here. It did make me a little sleepy, though. I'm more fond of the first act than the second.
