it's only 2 of the core group that aren't in the film

Posted: 6/29/05 at 5:01pmI certainly don't think that age was an issue in casting her for the film as everyone else has aged 10 years as well. I thought Daphne passed for a stage 19 year old without a problem back in the day.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 5:11pmOh, I'm not saying that I disagree with you because I do agree with you. However, where I beg to differ is that back when she first played the role downtown and on Broadway, I think she could pass as a 19 year old.

personally I think that Daphne would have been a huge casting mistake for the film. not that I dont think she is great but mimi is the youngest person of the "group" and looking 19 on stage is a whole lot different than on film. Film is a helluva lot less forgiving. also (correct me if I'm wrong) but i believe that Daph quit smoking only within the last two years and 7 aditional years of smoking after rent plus singing can do a whole lotta damage and im sure that the high "ow-oooot"s in "Out Tonight" would be tough for her. Plus the woman just had a baby and I'm sure that she would rather spend time with her new child than move to Cali for a few months to film (Even if it is Rent. Dont get me wrong I LOVE Daphne but i think that at this point it wouldnt work as well. and since Mimi is such a crucial Character who has to be belivable on FILM in a wide range of emotions and situations I think she would be a tough sell on audiences and critics alike. Again She was great in the OBC most of my fav songs on the OBCR are Mimi's so please dont bash me for rashing her cause I wasn't at all.
As for Joanne Im really excited about tracy. I love her on the trailer doing the solos and from the few brief moments we have seen her and Idina together I find them phsically alot more believable as a couple than Idina and Fredi.
Remember in many respects Film is alot more intimate than the stage and something that is completly unnoticable in the theatre will stick out like a sour thumb

Daphne was very pregnant and right around the time filming started was when she had the baby. this may or may not have been the only reason why she wasn't considered.. From what I have been told I cant help but think that Rosario will be amazing.
As for Fredi, she is not out of the business per say.. She is still very into theatre but she spends more time working with children these days.she also has a company called big spoon productions that is theatre related. However would have loved to participate in the movie in some fashion. She stated so herself on the OT forum a good 6 or 8 months ago.

Nobody ever mentions Gilles, or Rodney, or Kristen, or Aiko, or Toby or Gwen or Byron.
They may not have been in the "core cast," but they were paid the same as the others. And I remember Aiko, a few days after it opened at the Neder, saying "I guess we're not in the show" when some stupid person pushed her out of the way to get to Adam after the show.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 5:30pmYa know, I am glad that you brought that up. I was hoping that they too would be in the film filling all the roles that they did on stage. While watching the movie trailer I thought it seemed very off during "Seasons Of Love" without the entire number of the cast there.
