It doesn't sound very interesting, but I never liked Riverdance.

If you really want to help the American theater, don't be an actress, dahling. Be an audience..... Don't be taken in by the guff that critics are killing the theater. Commonly they sin on the side of enthusiasm. Too often they give their blessing to trash... Tallulah Bankhead

Well if it's set in Ireland of course it will have Riverdance "style" dancing cause that's the traditional sort of dance there. As far as I know there is no actual "Riverdance" in the show, just traditional Irish dance.

I'm bummed about Colm Wilkinson. I really can't stand him.

And I just hope the score is spectacular and blows everyone away.

I figured Riverdance producers.

I asked my g'ma who this lady was (she's off the boat Irish) she said she never heard of her either.

Ooh, I'll play. This show sounds like a lot of fun - a big swashbuckling affair. My choice for Grace would be Rachel York. I can picture her as a young Maureen O'Hara type, all fire and sass, belting out those Irish sea shanties.

I think York is a tad old for the role. Otherwise she would be a great choice.

LMAO, Jimmcf. re: pirate queen casting thoughts

Eponine, I didn't get a sense of Grace's age from any of the articles I read. I could see her as thirtyish. I'll have to do some research and see what I can find on the real character.

re: pirate queen casting thoughts

Here's a link to a biography of Grace O'Malley, the pirate queen. She was one feisty broad, from childhood to her death at age 70. It sounds like she became a pirate at 35 (after her first husband's death) and kept at it for at least 25 years. She didn't meet Queen Elizabeth until she was in her 60s, so I'm thinking the musical will span a good portion of her life, making an actress in her 30s a prime candidate for the part.

I sure hope Colm takes on this show. It's been a while since he's been on the boards, apart from his concerts, and I would love to see him back in New York.
