Well I can probably say with some certainty that I will not be seeing Brooklyn. I generally go to the theatre to see art. Great Art. A great storyline, a great score, AND great performances. It all has to be there for me or I KNOW I won't like it. I've heard the music and the storyline and the only reason for me to see this show is the performances and that's not enough. I'm one of those people who believes that shows should be amazing and a knock out. Shows should be art and it should be groundbreaking. It's freakin Broadway. Theatrically you can't get any better. So at the top of the theatrical food chain there'd better be all fierce shows up there. Now I'm not saying that everything has got to be Sunday in the Park or Light in the Piazza. I looved Wicked and Hairspray and all that. Great Art doesn't equal depressing or deep. The 2 shows I just mentioned were great. So saying that Brooklyn isn't deep as an excuse for it's mediocrity doesn't seem right to me. It seems that the problem isn't that it's not deep, but it's just not good. This is MY opinion and I personally don't think that your uncultured if you like Brooklyn but this is why most people don't like it. Right now, the only reason why I'd want Brooklyn to stay open is to supply actors with work.

Jazzy, I respect your opinion very much because you respect mine..
I agree about the art... I couldn't get over how I felt after seeing "Caroline, or Change".. I was so angry when it closed because it's the type of show you have to see more than once. But I also enjoy big voices and inspiring stuff... I remember when Brooklyn first was being talked about, people for some reason compared it to "Rent". Now, I love Rent so much and I don't care what anyone says... the voices, story, emotions, everything. So that is actually why Bklyn first intrigued me.. because hearing that it was similar to Rent. When I had my Marymount audition, my parents wanted to see a show. Wicked was sold out and my friend who is in it couldnt even get me tickets... even though I heard the terrible reviews of Brooklyn, i for some reason was still really intrigued to see it.. i kinda knew i would like it. I bought the CD and enjoyed a few songs, but I thought it sounded kinda corny.. but when I saw the show, it wasn't corny at all to me.. it was energetic, inspiring, funny.. and i actually thought it was very creative. I thought the costumes and how they acted everything out was just great. And Eden's voice was sooo soo great live.. (a little much on the CD) I actually didn't even like Cleavant or Kevin's voice on the CD but live .. omg, incredible. Cleavant truly shines and just commands the stage.. like a "magic man"... haha. But anyway, i know this show may not appeal to everyone. But if Mamma Mia can be on Bway for a few years than so can Brooklyn.. what the heck's the story line of Mamma Mia?? and the music?! i'd say it's much more corny than Brooklyn, and brooklyn is original. I just don't want Brooklyn to close, I want people to HEAR about it and get a chance to see it.. I know that if it was promoted to the younger Rent crowd and younger crowd who doesn't even like musicals, they'd enjoy it... the music could be on the radio almost, and i think it's something cool and different for Broadway.

I really, really disliked this show. I echo Corine's statement that I would rather see PRYMATE first. I wouldn't see BROOKLYN again if Melissa Errico, Carolee Carmello, Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Brent Carver joined the cast tomorrow.

My sister saw Brooklyn and she said make sure you DON'T see it. She said she liked about 2 songs in the whole thing.... I'm guessing it's not THAT good..
