edited: I got the farther away seats to CURTAINS. very excited! disappointed that i won't get to see this revival of SUNDAY, but you can't have it all...thanks.
i'm thinking of getting tix to the sunday, june 29th matinee performance of EITHER "Sunday" or "curtains" but i can't decide which. I'm leaning towards "curtains" because i feel like this is my once chance to see it, where i've seen a production of sunday before
and there's a possibility it will extend into july, right?
The problem is that i can get discouted seats to "sunday" in the front of the mezzanine for the same price as seats in the last couple of rows of the mezz for "curtains."
I'm still leaning towards curtains.
Am i right that this would be the closing performance of either show?

Curtains-for the comedy
Sunday-for the music/story

Posted: 5/30/08 at 12:39pmI'd pick "Curtains" if I were you. It sounds like such a fun show. I was sorry I didn't get a chance to see it the last time I was in New York. But whichever one you pick, hope you have fun!

Sunday is a phenominal production, and your seats will be PERFECT.
Curtains is much more standard fare, entertaining but unspectacular.
It depends what kind of person you are (do you like deep, intelligent musicals, or do you prefer to be entertained?), but I'd say Sunday, easily.

Don't miss Sunday. Especially not for Curtains.
Things as beautiful as this production of Sunday only come along once in a while. Curtains it the kind of show that's a dime a dozen. It's an average, cute backstage comedy. There will be something new that's comparable soon enough. Sunday is a freaking masterpiece.

Whatever you do, don't miss Curtains. The show is hilarious and David Hyde Pierce, Debra Monk and Karen Ziemba are wonderful. Hearing Jason Danieley sing I Miss the Music is not something anyone should miss. Curtains is so much more than a musical comedy.
I saw it on May 20 and was able to get discounted front row/centre tix just two weeks ahead of time.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 5:27pmI would encourage you to see CURTAINS. This production of SUNDAY is lackluster and the two leads are very very very pale imitations of the originals.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 9:23pmI have seen curtains twice once after it opened last April and then again this past February. you need to see it. Karen Ziemba and Debra Monk and Megan Sikora's dance in "Kansasland" is Something not to see. Oh and "Thataway" and the show stopper of the second act, 'It's a business" by Debra Monk is just comedic gold. Please go see it or it will be a big mistake!!!!

Sunday!
Curtains will be touring, so you could probably catch it then. Although said above that "This production of SUNDAY is lackluster and the two leads are very very very pale imitations of the originals," I think it's amazing, with cool projections/scenic design, and I thought the two leads were simply amazing as well. I highly doubt you'd see them as "pale imitations," considering Roundabout thought they were good enough to transfer them from London!?

They're two entirely different shows, ultimately it's your choice anyway. But for it's worth; I saw Sunday a couple of weeks ago and while I'm glad I did, I found myself bored and well ready to leave by the time it finished. Beautifully staged and with more than a few redeeming qualities, but not for me.
I'm a fan of Curtains, but more-over of the company of performers. They are amazing! And since Curtains is closing on June 29th the performance is bound to be dynamite. Yes, it's touring, but not with this company of performers. That IMO makes it a must see, it'll be a long time before you see so many A-list talents on one stage or experience a company that appears to be having so much fun.
Just a suggestion even though you didn't ask - if you're looking for a beautiful production - ditch Sunday and go see South Pacific - if you haven't already seen it of course. No matter what you see, have a great time.

There's no better counterargument than this, provided by Stage-Fan:

That IMO makes it a must see, it'll be a long time before you see so many A-list talents on one stage or experience a company that appears to be having so much fun.
There will be no other opportunity to see this cast, the majority of the OBC. Not a revival cast, but the OBC.
I enjoyed Curtains a great deal. Saw it twice and that's not too shabby for an out-of-towner. If it weren't for the skyrocketing airfares, I'd be seriously thinking of coming back for the last performance. Loved it that much.
