question about TDF discounts
#1question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:08pmI am considering joining TDF for ticket discounts but I was wondering what the difference is from using sites like broadwaybox.com that dont charge annual fees. Are the discounts from TDF better? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've been a member of TDF since November.
Used it once, and I think its the biggest waste.
There's pretty much nothing on it.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:14pmI couldn't disagree with DRSisLove more. TDF is so worth it if you live in New York and you like to see stuff other than ONLY Broadway shows. There is so much to see on there.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:15pmwow! I use it all the time! Just in the past month I've bought tickets to Spelling Bee twice, The Seigel concerts at Town Hall, Grey gardens, Moon Be Misbegotten, Radio Golf and 110 Shades. I prefer to use it rather than standing in a student rush line becuase I don't live in the city and would have to be there so early to garuntee me a ticket to a show.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:16pmI've been member for two years and, stupidly enough, haven't used it once. I always hold out hope that they'll have what I want when I want it, but then I just end up doing Student Rush or using the TKTS booth anyway. TDF is good for Off/Off Off Broadway fare though. I think the timing of when they list certain shows has just been bad for me...but the prices when they are listed are great.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:21pmI joined about a month ago, and haven't used it yet. (I'm waiting until the summer when I have more time to make the trip to the city) There are a bunch of shows that I would like to see that are posted though (both on and off broadway). You can't beat the price of tickets (most are around $30)....the price of the membership literally pays for itself after buying a ticket to one show.

#7re: question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:25pmI've had a variety of experiences with TDf seat locations. Last winter, I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Woman in White and both were respectivly 5th row left orchestra and front row right orchestra. Most recently, I saw Spring Awakening during previews and had third to the last row of the orchestra. Most of my experiences though have been front mezz.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:29pmI've gotten a mix of front mezz and orchestra seats...and I really can't complain about what I've been given thru TDF. I've been a member since January and I've seen 5 shows with it so it's more that paid for itself. I just can't see to win lately with some of the dates they've had up for shows I want to see...

What I mean is,
If you want it for Broadway shows (Broadway, not off or off-off-off), it is not worth it. There is rarly a good show up there.

I've used it a couple times and I always get terrible seats.
I don't think its worth it---unless you dont mind sitting in the rafters.

It depends on your definition of a "good" show. I've been a member for just 9 months and seen 16 shows through TDF. Including these Broadway shows:
Company
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Beauty and the Beast
The Apple Tree
The Pirate Queen
The Producers
Rent
The Little Dog Laughed
and these off-Broadway shows:
Forbidden Broadway: SVU
[title of show]
In the Heights
I Love You, You're Perfect Now Change
I'm short on cash right now otherwise I'd have quite a few more tickets to shows opening soon.
#12re: question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 6:49pmI am a firm believer in and supporter of TDF. They have allowed me to see a great many shows for $30 and the listings have also encouraged me to see things that I wouldn't normally see. If you are eligible for a membership, I definitley reccomend taking advantage of it.

Again, I disagree. There are constantly good shows on there. If by "good show" you mean Wicked, Hairspray, and Jersey Boys, well then no, those shows will never be on TDF. But there are definitely shows that are worth seeing on there.

Posted: 4/5/07 at 7:02pmI'm going to be in NY mid-June. Do you think tickets for some of those Broadway shows that have been listed will be on TDF around then (Company, Pirate Queen, etc.)? Or is the timing pretty narrow?
#15re: question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 7:04pmI don't think the selection will be as good in June. Your best bet with TDF seems to be for shows that are in previews.
#16re: question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 9:38pmwell i would love to know how much would orchestra or mezz seats be for beauty and beast?
#17re: question about TDF discounts
Posted: 4/5/07 at 9:43pmYou don't get to pick your seats. Tickets are no more than $35 a piece including fees. They're not offering Beauty and the Beast right now and probably won't for the rest of its run.

-actually if I recall correctly, Jersey Boys was on TDF for a period of time during previews. Honestly, you can't go wrong with TDF. I would encourage anyone eligible (which is pretty much everyone) to join!

Basically, if you are someone whose favorite shows are all of the major sel-out hits and that's all you want to see, then no, it's not worth it.
In general, the prices on TDF are around 30 dollars, and on any given day there are a few broadway shows up. Just today, I saw Bee up there, along with Journey's End, Coram Boy, F/N, and others, and a bunch of major off-broadway shows...in general there are more plays up than musicals...and also it's really only good if you are the type of person who sees things on a pretty regular basis and can go whenever.
