I saw it this evening...and I really did not enjoy it.
The first act flew by and was painless but pointless (40 minutes) but the second act was INTERMINABLE and dreary as anything.
It just felt so stale and lifeless; the whole production felt pointless and it just lay there. Hyde Pierce is fine, the rest of the cast is really not doing enough at all to bring any kind of life to the show. The direction is VERY run of the mill, the set design is nice enough...
It just all felt so pointless and monotonous and ridiculously uninspired. It got laughs from the audience but I genuinely laughed ONCE. And it was a hiccup of a laugh. I got so restless and bored about twenty minutes into act two that I was drifting off and found myself thinking about something other than the play; never a good sign.
Don't bother with this production; I didn't pay for my ticket and feel like I wasted an evening at a boring, dull production. I see EXIT THE KING tomorrow afternoon and hope it will get the bad taste out of my mouth from its next door neighbor, ACCENT ON YOUTH.

Posted: 5/5/09 at 11:32pmI completely agree, rocks. I also saw it for free and was glad I didn't pay to sit through that. I was drifting off and was really just bored by most of it. I think it had a lot to do with the actual writing, though, rather than the performances. I think the actors worked well with what I think is a pretty weak script and definitely weak direction.
