GOD, that was just too campy. Silly boy.
Anytime! I am just glad that I am making you laugh now and not cry!

Everyone is entitled to hate Adam if they so choose, but please back it up with something other than, 'he sucks'. That doesn't give me much reason to respect your opinion, but if you say that his acting was forced in this scene or his vocals were muddy on that song, I can understand you.

Ok...as requested...reasons why Adam Pascal sucks:
-His acting doesn't read to most audiences as a character...it's always Adam up there singing...and singing like Adam
-His voice is constantly having vocal problems. I understand this is fairly normal for a rock singer, but he is on Bway, and should be more careful.
-He is constantly fighting to not close his eyes on stage. That's not fun to watch.
-The tone of his voice is raspy, and makes my throat hurt...because you know he is on all sorts of vocal steroids to keep the swelling down.
-His movement on stage is either forced (probably because a director told him a stage direction), or it is just him swaying back and forth...very seldom does he just stand there, or make an original physical choice.
-His butt.
Okay, so the last one is a joke. He's got a nice butt.
That's the list I'll put out for now...go ahead...open fire.
You asked for it, so fire opened. I'll be the first to admit that he is NOT the best actor out there, but he's got something special.
I do wonder just how long it's been since you've seen him, based on what you're saying.
1. Constantly having vocal problems? Vocal steroids? I'd love to know how you say you "know" these things.
2. The eyes: he rarely does that anymore, at least in the context of a stage musical. He'll do it when he sings his own stuff, but he's a musician - let him do what he wants.
3. The movement: I think this is the one that really lead me to question just how long it's been since you've seen him. During his first time around with AIDA, he did just stand there and sing - he's definitely got a lot more rhythm. The second time around he really let loose and moved with the music, especially during Fortune. And Cabaret? It just wouldn't have worked if he'd just stood there. Nothing he did up there seemed remotely forced. And his movements are consistent, to a fault. He's incredibly dependable in every single performance that he gives, so much so that you can track him down to the raising of an eyebrow.
Look, I'm not trying to convert you and I'm not trying to make you change your mind. You put in your two cents, so there's mine. I've learned that especially with things in theater, if someone doesn't like something, there's just simply no changing their mind. Normally I'd probably let it go and be like "oh, well okay! You're entitled." I guess I just feel like with the show closing and all, I need to get some stuff out. I've heard enough about why people don't like Adam, and today it's bugging me. Nothing personal, but just... be gentle.
And yes, he does have a very nice butt.
Thanks darling. I need backup, methinks.

I would have to say Rapp. I have never been a big fan of Adam's voice. Though, it fits wonderfuly in Rent. I would have to say that in Aida...I REALLY like his understudy in Chicago (before it moved to broadway) MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Rapp is much more versitle!
Just my thoughts.

emcee, BRAVO!!!! *stands and claps* i completely agree.
I couldn't even take most of your 'points' seriously, touchmeintemorning.
You don't like him, fair enough but think of some better points, yours are just... may I say, silly (vocal steroids???).

luvtheemcee,
So...now I understand why everyone hates me today. I'd forgotten that Adam just closed AIDA this weekend. When I heard Heather wouldn't be there, I stopped following the evening.
Yes. Consider all my previous comments to be read at a later date...like a Christmas package shipped too early...only...um...not so...um...festive.
=)
cheers to AIDA...which was an AMAZING show...despite the critics...who are universally wrong.

God all the way. I love Adam to death, and he never ceases to impress me. Vocally, I have to say he's one of the most impressive performers out there and anytime I see him perform he's even better than before. To me he never gets old.
Anthony I only saw through boots until I saw him in Little Shop. He's amazing on all aspects. Vocally he's great, I never knew he had such range because RENT and Charlie Brown have him as very low tenors with the highest he reaches maybe a G. And acting blew me out of the water.
As for those who say Adam's always the same up there and he never really uses character, my two cents is that his roles don't really require that much character. Since he originated the role of Roger, he couldn't really play off of what others did like some of the other Rogers can do, but he seemed to play that character well (he was nominated for a Tony). And for Radames, well, that's got to be such an amazingly underwritten part. He's the only character in the show that doesn't really "change" emotionally. And his lines aren't even too great. I think he's done great with such an underwritten part. The only other Radames I saw was Cassidy and that's where I realized how difficult it must to be to play that part.
Pascal all the way.
Thanks, touchmeinthemorning. I still don't agree with your previous statements, but I thank you for your sympathy. I'm normally not terribly defensive, but I'm kind of angry on Adam's behalf - the whole camera thing is really beginning to sink in and bother me. People shouldn't have screwed that last moment up for him. I don't hate you.

i think this comparison is just stupid. yes, i did answer it, but i think it's stupid. both performers have an amazing amount of talent. they put their heart and soul into performing the roles that they are given successfully. that is what should really matter. not who the better singer is, or who the better actor is. both work hard to develop that character. they should be respected for that.

Going by the libretto I read and the CD, Radames seems to be a pretty underwritten character and there is a limit to what you can do with that. (Norbert as Fiyero was eh, but it wasn't Norbert's fault the writing sucked)
What vocal issues does he have onstage, touchme? He sounds great to me on the CD, I just don't hear the raspyness that you all describe so often. And steroids? You don't have anything to base that asumption on.
I can see what you mean about him always being Adam and not his character, this I agree with. You can say the same thing about someone like Kristin Chenoweth though, but she seems to get by alright.
---FYI-- i think adam is a year older than anthony. I dont know if you were trying to say his voice sounds more youthful or something along those lines, but i thought i might point that out. ---
i might be wrong-- im not obsessed enough to look up their ages, i really do think anthony is older, but yes what I did mean in the first place is his voice is more youthful than anthony's... whatever its not that big of a deal

DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE MOURNING THE LOSS OF ADAM PASCAL AND AIDA:
I'm not so much a fan of Kristin's acting, either. She's still playing the little girl form Charlie Brown. And her "dramatic" moments are fake and forced...imho
As far as Adam's voice goes...it always has air going through the chords...which is not healthy. It also always has two tones sounding at the same time...which is also not healthy. If someone does those things, their chords will swell up, and they will have to have steroids to reduce the swelling. I don't know for a fact he uses medication to reduce swelling, but I have heard some things (through the grapevine...so, they may be big old lies), and it seems to make sense.
I have seen him vocally make it through a show, and I have seen him not make it through a show...and crack all over the place. While Tonya can do that...cause she can act up a storm, Adam doesn't have that luxury.
And...I also don't think Radames is underwritten...I think it can be a VERY powerful part...if played properly...of course, I happen to believe anything can be amazing if an actor has the courage, and the director has the vision.
There's my two cents.
touchmeinthemorning-- very well said... someone better inform adam of this before its too late and his voice is toast!

Kristin Chenoweth gets the cutesy roles. It's probably more typecasting than it is her abilities to act because I watched her in Music Man, by the way very boring movie, and she was very different than anything I've seen her do. She was phenomenal. It goes to show you that it's the parts not the actor.
The same applies to Adam. I'm sure if he had gotten the chance to do Seymour, as he was looking into, he would have played it in a character because it is a character part. You can't really judge actors by the parts they play because that's just a fraction of their talent.
Whadya mean by two tones? Do you mean how he uses raspiness as his style or what?
Gavin Creel lol
