this from a casting director friend of mine here in the city ...
1) the cast is truly HOT, and that's twelve hot men ...
2) most of the 12 are classically trained, including Tisch/Juilliard/Actors Studio/Lamda, London, as well as a) know how to speak Shakespeare, b) know how to act Shakespeare and c) truly believe in the project. apparently the nudity is for a purpose, and not just a whim of the director.
don't know about you, but sounds good enough for me ... besides, why not support this kind of endeavor?

This reminds me of that episode of Quantom Leap where Sam has to be in a nude version of Hamlet.
my my my, doesnt it seem like AGES since we've had a good ol' fashion shill on the boards. welcome toby. enjoy your time here till you most likely depart on oct. 30th
Theatreboy33...very funny! My thouhts exactly.
I think the idea of this show is absolutely ridiculous, but to each his own.
"c) truly believe in the project. apparently the nudity is for a purpose, and not just a whim of the director."
Out of interest....what purpose?

Macbeth was a warrior. How sensible would it be to have naked warriors?
Exactly.

I think it's a different, more homoerotic, kind of war.
And we need to see that onstage why?

Hmmm....thinking about how Birnum Wood will come to high Dunsinane Hill in this production!
oh, please. you know you're all gonna be there on opening night...

Of all the interpretations out there on all the Shakespearian plays (and I have seen some really wacked out interpretations), nekkid boys actually seems rather tame.
oooh do tell Urban, about the most exciiting interpretation you get this side of the pond is the....lets dress them in modern clothing and set it on a basketball court or in a school yard so it will appeal to 'the kids'...mentality

thank you eponine thenardier
finally some generous - non-twisted - person out there. who are these people who write off plays before even seeing them? (before even reading a review, not that the morons at the NY Times know anything about theater) they surely can't be 'genuine' 'theater people' - otherwise they'd support forms of theater, surely? not slamming them straightaway. frustrated actors/directors types, I suppose, stuck in dead end jobs with **** all to do except make trouble. (all in the wake of Katrina, Iraq ...) oh, this self-dramatisation of theirs. makes up for not being able to tread the boards, I suppose.
ps. I'm a producer.

but, before the vultures descend, not a producer on this show. (and yes, there won't be much expense because of the nudity)

the fact the you folks are this interested in my little show brings me such joy. and the misinformation -- i love theatre people! look, i'm no idiot. i know how to sell a show. naked? macbeth? brilliant! but i also know how to direct one, so, you can all rest your little heads and know that this will be the best production of macbeth by a physically varied collection of non-union actors in an uncomfortably small theatre with occasional nudity and a bit of man on man lip action, you're likely to see this year. okay, so maybe i don't know how to sell a show, but i'm still amused. cheers, russell taylor. dear nycmonk, I'm with you totally on this. if you're referring to my last message, re theater people, I was referring to the morons who write these slamming messages on this blog. that's to say - be negative about a show before even seeing/reading about it. but, of course, they know everything, don't they? (that's why they're not out there working and have too much time on their hands, writing such crap.)
best of luck with the production. I'm coming along, with friends. female friends, too, whose interest is 'piqued'. so there is a varied audience out there for your show.
