Well it does look very much like the current style of the show, the color palatte somewhat anyway. I think that if you blew up a big poster of this on Times Square it would get EVERYONE's attention...

Ouch. That hurts. I hate the new poster. But the colors do make it stand out.

we ought to have periodic photoshopping threads, where we pick a show (recent or classic) and people just throw designs out there. I think that would be fun.

Frankly I like the little map on top in your logo. Lively colors, none of that ugly red and green all over the Nederlander...

I forgot to reply to the topic at hand before. I like the second logo much more than the first. The idea of using Keith Harring's artwork isn't inappropriate for the show necessarily, but I don't think it fits the tone of the piece either. The map of the city is a great idea, and the blurry image actually suits the piece very well. The color is vibrant but not too happy. Are the map and colors your own, or is it an image you found somewhere else? I like how there is a color space that's shaped like a heart, but wouldn't it more appropriately be over the East Village? The only thing I don't like is the vast amount of black space at the bottom. Is there some symbolism there, or are you just trying to balance out the color at the top?

The only problem I have with the keith Haring is that it's an outright copy--if you were to hand-draw the image, it would be a little more "yours."

I like the second alot too--the black box excepted.

Don't get too bogged down in the idea of "happy" show versus "sad" show--RENT may have tragic elements, but it's a celebration of life and joy and color is totally appropriate.

The last thing RENT is is solemn.

The second one's colors are ones I manipulated. The heart shape isn't meant to single out the West Village but the red circle is supposed to do that to the East; sort of symbolizing the area that is affected in the show (almost like a disease that's spreading) and wanting that area to stand out the most (hence the red).

The black at the bottom is to balance out the title but also for there to be a space on the poster to put billing, etc. I was too lazy to do any of it last night.

And ourtime992 I like your thread idea. I do have other designs in the works.
