I don't know about magnets... but they have sippy cups.
And amusing? Um, sure it's amusing. There is a man dressed up as a dog... who actually moves like a dog (creepy). That alone held my attention for like 10 minutes.
And since my Dylan/Arden combo didn't work out... if you love the circus, and enjoy being on hallucinogens then you'll love this show (just cover your ears). Better?

Posted: 10/2/06 at 11:27amI just wanted to know if this is a potential trainwreck of the must-see variety or the just plain bad/skip it variety.

Although I know I am in the minority, I think it is not as bad as everyone is saying. I tend to go for the abstract pieces of theatre and not the mainstream musicals, but I still thought it had it's redeeming qualities. I thought the ensemble was amazing, the band was great and Arden was fantastic. I say, go and see it and decide for yourself. The design is beautiful, with fantastic sets, costumes and surreal lighting. But then again, maybe it is just me.

It's not just you Molly.
I totally agree.
And whoever said the acrobatics were bad is looney.
They are wonderful and highly difficult.

While I don't necessarily expect this to be categorized as a flop (yet...I'd imagine it's still way too early to make any dertermination on that at this point, only a few previews in). It does sound a bit...off, misguided (perhaps?). I'll definitely make a point to see it at some point.
WAT, I do enjoy a good trainwreck (I'm still livid that I missed The Blonde and the Thunderbird), but I find that there's generally a very fine line between delightfully out-to-lunch, and just a bore/waste of time and money. I'm glad I saw IML, with it's mind-boggling bizarreness, but I didn't even bother making it over to Lestat and Ring of Fire.
I suppose I should reserve judgement on this until I actually see it. I'll be going in with fairly low expectations, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised if I have a reasonably enjoyable time. Sometimes it's nice to go in not expecting much of anything and having a surprisingly good time, rather than going in with unrealistically high expectations, in which case, it's often hard not to be let down.

Doesn't matter that you missed RING OF FIRE...it was mostly just boring...nothing campy about it.
So sorry you missed LESTAT and THUNDERBIRD though! Don't miss THE TIMES...it won't last.

Posted: 10/2/06 at 1:25pmI do kind of wish I'd seen Lestat. It just came at such a bad time that I couldn't afford (financially or time-wise) to go see something that I knew was going to be terrible (wonderfully terrible or otherwise). Blonde and the Thunderbird is always going to gnaw at me though. When I read some of the reviews on here...man! If you could get an audience in the mood for some quality trash, that could have been a good night out at the theatre, imho! Ahhh, the one that got away.

Thanks for that review. I personally HATE BD's music and planed on not seeing it anyway.
This will hopefully help the folks "on the fence" about seeing it.
