How could this NOT be illegal? These things don't just end up online... and say "confidential" on their front covers.

isn't this the first draft - not the final?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

If that's September '04, and they've been making changes throughout, then probably not.

I couldn't help myself. I read the opening and ending.

Now, I haven't seen the show. I only heard some of the music.

AND NOW I LEARN ANGEL F*CKING DIES???????

I ruined it for myself!!!!

Nope. I don't own the Cast Recording, I have only heard the music to Rent, La Vie Boheme, One Song Glory, and a couple others.

Haha. Wow, I thought it was common knowledge. Sorry, Capn!
But would it really ruin the show/movie for you? I think that it's still powerful even if you know of Angel's fate.

I'm not sure. I only read the last part of the script which gave it away. I'd imagine the events leading up to it would have made it a powerful & surprising moment in the film.

Well, I wouldn't say it's surprising, but in the show, that scene is the song "Contact." It's beautiful, and pretty damned powerful.

Well, if you see it on stage, you kind of get that it'll happen. Especially in the song "Without You," you see that Angel's getting sicker and sicker. It's not really a surprise when he does die, but it is still really emotional.

Gosh, "Without You" is such a wonderful number on stage. I forget that sometimes.

Yeah but by now that script probably isn't all that reliable anymore as to whats in the actual movie. From reading that though, it sounds amazing so I can't imagine how its going to be after all the edits to make it better. re: rent script

Wait, so there's going to be dialouge in the movie? I'm so confused...

Presumably, there will be some. It's close enough already, though, is it really worth getting into the nitpicky discussions about what's going to be how in the script? The basic point is that apparently *some* of the "sung dialogue" stuff will now be actual dialogue, but we don't know, be this the case, which songs that's been done to. Apparently the shooting script is pretty close to the libretto, though. Much closer than the original screenplay draft.

ETA - Light My Candle is NOT spoken.

I didn't read, just skimmed, but it looks pretty good. We'll see, boys...

Hold up, "Light My Candle" is spoken? I thought I read somewhere that they recorded it. O no, please let it not be true! Boo.

I read that draft when I first found out about the RENT movie and the mention of those new characters really scared the crap out of me. I mean its an interesting concept and an admirable and sweet idea but I'm very glad that they opted against that particular idea in the end.

And as for added dialogue, the movie probably wouldn't get as much attention or good reviews if it was purely in song like the stage production so dialogue would understandably have to be added. On broadway is one thing where people pay to hear the singing and scores but with movies, the audience tends to want some good dialogue etc so yeah. Although if I remember correctly, Anthony said that LMC was recorded as a song so I don't think its all dialogue now....don't quote me though.

Ohk, good. Thanks. Haha.

I was even upset that the song was not included on the Highlights CD. See, I had heard the whole cast recording when it first came out, but I was too young to own it. The first CD I got of Rent was the Highlights CD. And I was upset that "Light My Candle" wasn't there. Really upset. Haha. But all is good now, for of course I now own the two-disc recording. But the song, it's definitely one of my favorites.

What? Light My Candle is on the highlights CD. I got mine recently(ish), so... unless they've revised the CD or something, that's just weird. Your Eyes and Over the Moon are the biggies that aren't on there.
