Say Cheese! is a great place. It's on 49th between 45th and 46th. Great grilled cheese sandwiches. Of all varieties!

Edison Cafe at the Edison Hotel on 46th/47th (?) between Bway and 8th. They have a counter, just request it. Many Broadway peeps also use the counter if they're alone. I've seen Mark Linn-Baker, Raul Esparza, and others I can't think of at the counter.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Thanks for all the great advice! It's nice to have so many responses. I don't mind really doing anything alone, and like I said especially like going to the theater alone, but for some reason eating is a different thing for me. I am thinking about trying the Edison Cafe and will let you know how it goes.

We love "The Evergreen" diner--- believe its on 46th---

Its right across the street from the Portland Sq Hotel--

Used to like "Ollie's" but they closed on 44th, and re-opened a much smaller (more expensive) version on 42nd between 9th and 10th- Not nearly as good, and the service was horrible !!

The Evergeen's on 47th. I ate there once. Their cheeseburgers were pretty good.
