I second Joe Allen's for good high-end pub fare. Stardust Diner is better for the atmosphere than for the quality of the food (best go there for dessert - it seems to suit the 50's atmosphere better), and it's close-ish to the Gershwin, if I remember correctly.
Carmine's is good for a budget if you've got 2 people. I can guarantee you won't be able to finish the meal even with two people, but you get what you pay for.
Corine! I wish I'd known what a foodie you are before I went on MY trip to NYC so I didn't have so many misses instead of hits!

Sure Mamie-
I wish i knew what you like and the price range.
Expensive but the best chinese in the Lincoln Center area.
Shun Lee on 65th Street. It is trendy but the food is outstanding and you pay for the quality. There is the cafe which is great if you are dining alone and it is a few dollars cheaper.
If you eat meat the crispy dry shredded beef is an orgasm on a plate and you will feel the explosion with each delectable bite.
I love that place and have to eat there every few months.
Ollies- Half the price and really not memorable but good for a quick snack on the run.
Time Warner Center- There is a market in the Time Warner center and they have a great salad bar. It is inexpensive and organic.
You can get a great salad, sushi anything you can think of.
It is called Whole Foods. I love the feta greek salad but i really think this place is all hype. To me it is like a mall in the suburbs so why bother. Go to a place in the City that you do not have at home.
Miyako Sushi- Out of the way but worth the treck. Do you live for Shrimp? If so Miyako Sushi has the best spicy shrimp tempura on the upper west side without a big price tag. It is my pick to the best lunch on the West Side. 92ND Amsterdam. Don't be alarmed if you see me. I eat there once a week.
Saigon Grill-
Inexpensive and tasty vietnamese food with long waits that are worth waiting for. 91 Amsterdam.
Mamie- PM me if you want other tips.
Corine

Posted: 7/2/04 at 11:30pmJust because I'm the biggest sucker for history and tradition, I usually go to Sardi's.

I think Sardi's has great canneloni.
But it is a tourist trap. I always get hit on by a bus boy there.

NYC is probably has most expensive restaurants of the world!
You have to spend a lot of money to eat good!

Posted: 7/3/04 at 1:32pmFirebird was an awesome experience. Ask the hostess if you can take a tour of the building and then go upstairs and look at all the art and everything....its very pretty. Blue fin was such a hip place with great flavors (just my kind of restaurant). Carmines also has great food but HUGE portions. You really need more than 4 people to go to that place to try more than one dish.

Glad you like Firebird.
It is a beautiful place. I love Blue Fin!
If you eat at Carmine's take heed! You will be burping up GARLIC FOR A WEEK.

Hope your date is as hot as mine.![]()
