I really want RENT to close because I would like to see a new show in the Nederlander Theatre. I have seen RENT three times and will not enter that theater again until it closes. It will be a thrill for me to revisit the theater that housed WIND IN THE WILLOWS and RAGGEDY ANN.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - I know t's still making $ and lots of people love it (though no one can tell me why) but shows that become 10 and 20-year tourist attractions do more harm than good on Broadway. Same thing is true for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, RENT, LION KING, THE PRODUCERS, and HAIRSPRAY.

It should be a law that long running shows must close when they hit the 5 year anniversary. If demand is sufficient, bring the show back for a limited "return engaement" but filling theatres with old product is damaging.

So is filling shows with old music. Enough with the "juke box" shows. Most don't work. MAMMA MIA was pleasant enought and at least JERSEY BOYS has a tough dramatic story to tell. But LENNON, GOOD VIBRATIONS, ALL SHOOK UP and now TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGING only point up how banrupt of ideas Broadway producers are these days. These shows attract the wrong audience and do nothing to foster development of the integrated musical.

Fresh product is what the theatre needs most. Even if some shows (WEDDING SINGER for example) only last 8 months, it's good to have turnover in the theatres. Why should out-of-towners keep coming back if its always the same old shows playing?

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

if all the unoriginal shows closed, they would make room for newer, better, and original shows... I mean, should like legally blond stay on b'way

Please take your ignorance somewhere else.

Hey, I have an idea, let's wish several actors and technicians out of jobs just because we don't like the particular show they are working for! I guess we can tell who doesn't work for the theatre industry here. If you like theatre enough to spend time at a forum dedicated to it, maybe you should try supporing it... all of it, not just the few shows you enjoy.

I'm a RENThead and all, but, I'd also have to say "RENT"...

let's face it, it's not doing too good anymore, it's down there with "The Producers". it's had a good decade run. Jonathan Larson did a marvelous job with it, but it's time to end, but let it still tour so we can still experience it every once & a while...
