Posted: 7/21/06 at 9:49amanyone have suggestions of a show we can rush an easy lottery to win with 3 people? i'm going with my parents for a wednesday matinee on july 26th. i have a student ID, but they do not. I know the rule is 2 tickets per ID for student rush. i've checked the talkin' broadway list, no new info up there for me. anyone have something different?

I'd say the best you can hope for is there being someone in line who's only looking to buy one ticket. Beyond that, I'd say you'd probably have to get two rush tickets and try to buy the third somewhere else in the theater and catch up at intermission. I have the same problem when both my parents come to visit me in the city (usually only my mom comes).
Good luck!
Oh, or you could try (even though you'd have to get there really early) Color Purple. Don't they have a general rush??

Posted: 7/21/06 at 12:30pmHarispray and DRS may be somewhat easier to win. And you could always get a third ticket from TKTS (tho' you won't all be sitting together).

Posted: 7/21/06 at 12:35pmI helped out a friend a few times and I think she finally won on the 3rd or 4th try (and we had some extra people there to help out too). I'd say it's kind of a tough one. From what I remember, it's a later lotto, so I think they may get some extra volume from the people that lost Avenue Q/Scoundrels down the street.

You have a 99.9% chance of winning the Hairspray lotto for all 3 of you. Go for that one, it is by far the easiest in the city to win. We went with 4 people once and all 4 of our names were called. And that was a Saturday night.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 1:36pmI second Hairspray. Sometimes there arent even enough people to do the lotto, so they just sell the tickets as Rush. Your chances are very good.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 7:47pmi've heard the same thing about hairspray. my mom and i saw it a while ago, my dad hasn't. it's a possibility if my mom is willing to see it again. thanks :)

Posted: 7/21/06 at 7:52pmactually, hairspray is usually very easy to win... but i've seen it packed since summer started. of course by packed i mean 50+ ppl, which is A LOT for this lotto. still definitely worth trying and you'll most likely win, but just throwin out a word of caution just in case

Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:14pmDo you think the Hairspray lotto seats are too close for a first-time attendee? I've heard that you can't see feet, but I don't know how much that matters.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:25pmi'd say yes, its fine for first timers. there's really nothing like being so close you can touch the performers and feeling part of the show. you do miss seeing the "big picture" of sets and all the choreography and such. i mean, you don't miss a thing, but you don't get that farther away perspective. some ppl love it, some don't... but you can't hate that show if you see it from the front row. its so fun

Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:44pmI've seen Hairspray twice and did the lotto first row seats both times and loved it. The second time I went, like someone already said, there weren't even enough people to do a real lotto. Yeah, you might miss some of the aspects of the choreography from being so close, but there's nothing as cool as being sweat on, being spit on, and attempting not to look up people's skirts when they dance right on top of you!

Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:57pmI've never done a student rush, but if you had 3 people and only one ID, would they sell you 3 seats in a row, but one at full price? I mean, they might as well take full price for a student rush ticket, if you're willing to pay it, so I don't see why they wouldn't, but I was still curious.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 9:42pmin a lot of theaters they set aside student rush seats, so i don't know if you could get a seat at full price or not if it's in that section.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 10:49pmIs that the way to do it with only one student ID? What if all three of you want to sit together?
