Has anyone else noticed that her mouth moves loads at the end of the song. i noticed it first when i saw it in august. it was so obvious that i thought she wasnt actually singing. i looked to see if the conductor had headphones on for the song cause i thought it might be clciekd tracked. watch the new preview vid and see for yourselves. on the sustained notes at the end...
Are you trying to say that Shoshana Bean LIP-SYNCHS her way through the song? On Broadway? People not actually singing? Are you kidding me??
In pop music yes, but in live theatre hell no. They would never hire her if she had to lipsynch during Wicked.
What an ass you are.
Screw you! dont call me an ass....read what i wrote...i was curious, of course she doesn't lip synch, just thought it looked weird that's all.
But if you know she doesn't lip synch, why would you insinuate that she doesn't sing? Too many people try to sabotage the reputation of performers on this website.
And I'll call you an ass if I want to.
And I want to. Ass.
I'm by no means a fan, but she is definately singing it.
I wasn't insinuating anything or trying to sabotage anyone, just asking if anyone else had noticed it. Chill out, it's people like you who turn any comment about anyone into a sabbotage! Perhaps you're just a bitter performer yourself....ass
I KNOW SHE IS SINGING IT, I JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE ELSE NOTICED HER MOUTH MOVEMENT!
Kermit says fight nice kids.
and give shoshanna a break....you know- it's not easy being green.
Yes her mouth moves.... that's what happens when you are singing or talking or eating, etc
What is your point?
btw shoshana is my favourite performer in the world and i think she is the most incredible singer in the world. end
Oh trust me darling, I am perfectly "chill".
What a terrible idea for a thread...regardless of whether you were trying to accuse her of lip synching or not. "SHOSHANA'S MOUTH MOVES WHEN SHE SINGS!!!!"
Wow. Great topic. I think it's time to move on and leave performers' reputations alone (whether you intentionally mean to ruin them or not)

just saying it moves on the long notes a lot when you would think she'd keep her mouth in the same position. i can't believe i am been attacked for making a little teeny observation.
norberts butt-
I think I know what you are talking about. the reason for the mouth movement is from a lack of correct training... not saying that is a horrible thing at all. she's got the voice. the same thing happens with Streisand, when she sustains a note, her mouth is all over the place because she uses things other than her throat to control the sound.
pippin, you are right. that is what i thought. i am a classically trained singer rather than a musically trained singer...that makes sense. thank you for giving me a friendly answer!
michael crawford lip synced parts of DANCE OF THE VAMPURES
Norbert-
I agree w/you. I've seen it before too. I just figured that that was how she controlled her sound. I was a little apprehensive to say anything though. People are here are ruuuuuuuuude...geesh...get a grip people! It's a discussion board...for discussion...about whatever you want to discuss!

I'm not sold on the suitabilty of Shoshana's voice for the part of Elphaba. She is far too expressive, I think of Elphaba as being quite moody and pensive, not appearing like she has had too many e-numbers. I think her voice is too squeaky, it doesn't work in the duet 'For Good' as their voices do not compliment each other as they sound too similar. I much prefered Idina's gravelly voice.
Also, either her or Fiyero are really off-key in 'As Long As You Are Mine'.
Before you all start, I think Shoshana has an amazing voice, I love the way she jumps (or should I say, slides) from note to note, it is very poppy, I just don't think it is suited to the role of Elphaba.

a few shows use prerecorded tracks for certain parts in the show when the actor is involved in something strenuous or is backstage moving around and not able to sing. on Broadway, if you can imagine. perfect examples would be the "Notes" in Phantom and "Why So Silent"... but Defying Gravity is not prerecorded, even though it should be so that she could be in a harness and fly over the audience, but apparently they're happy with her rising in place...
as for the way she moves her mouth I'm going to agree and say it's either lack of training or perhaps a bad technique that was taught to her or she picked up at some point...

Of course she's singing it. But she makes a lot of wierd faces when she sings. My personal favorite funny face is during The Wizard and I, her "So I'll make goooooooooeeeeeewwwd." its so odd lol

Wow 442....you are an incredibly angry individual! I also find your comments amusing since Broadway musicals do have tracks from time to time. Norbert, I understand what you were asking. I agree with her mouth movements being excessive. Don't get me wrong, I think Shoshana has a magnificent voice, however, she's relying on jaw tension to sustain notes.....she's also a phenomenal talent on Broadway, so who am I to criticize:) As for you 442.....CALM DOWN!
her norbert .... i know what you mean.
I saw her in June (6th row) and my sister and i both commented on the faces especially during the scene. No clue .... but yeah she does move her mouth peculiarly.
How dare any of you insult me by TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO ME how Broadway shows occasionally use tracks.
What I was saying that, in an instance such as this, where the actress is ON stage and is singing the song visibly from start to end, it is rude, disrespectful, and just plain ignorant to bring up the topic of lipsynching and trying to connect it to her.
Whether the original poster meant it or not, it was completely unnecessary to bring that topic into the topic of "SHOSHANA MOVES HER LIPS". They are completely unrelated and untrue and it sends out the wrong message.
