Saw it on Friday - the cast is great, especially Nathan. The play, however, had me bored at times - too much dialouge. The lady next to me was snoring in the first act, and were in the front row of center orch!!! I wouldn't heartily recommend it or see it again. I loved "Trumbo" though!

"too much dialouge."
What does this mean, if it's a play?

Posted: 10/9/06 at 2:48pmI know what the premise of Butley is, but I'm just curious, is it a comedy or a drama?

Just seemed to be too much talking, too many words, that actually made it boring (for me anyway) at times....
It had some laughs, but not much action...

Well if they don't talk there is no play.
Unless it's Mime.

Go see it, give your own opinion. I think Nathan is great, I'm just not thrilled with this play. It was just "OK" for me (wife had same opinion). I liked other dramas a LOT (Doubt/The Pillowman/Trumbo for example), but this was just didn't do it for me, that's all.
As I said, the lady next to me in the front row was actually asleep and snoring loudly! I was hoping nobody on stage noticed her!

Anyone else reminded of Amadeus right now?
So how many words should there be in the play? I mean, if you think some lines should be cut, that's one thing, but "too many words" or "too much talking"? I'm sure the play has exactly the amount of words required by the author, director and producers. And if they are not talking, what should they be doing? Clogging? Jazzercise? Sleeping? Pilates? Solving Sudoku? This is baffling.
