I recently saw on youtube a video of Bernadette Peters and Peter Allen doing an interview together, and I'm guessing the year to be around 1989 or 1990 and they showed a 30 sec clip of them singing this song that I have come to like. They were singing the chorus and all I heard and understood them sing is 'why not." I don't believe that is the title of the song. It was a duet and the clip showed them signing together. I wasn't sure if we could upload videos here so I;m asking if anyone knows the title of that song? I believe the interview was about them promoting a tour of them together, in what I'm assuming in the year 1989 or 1990.

You can provide the link.  That's the best way for anyone to know if they can help.

was bernadette singing on a pink piano towards the beginning?

if so, i think it was an Irving Berlin tribute. it was like a 10 minute production

Well the link worked, but I couldn't make out most of what was being sung

This reminded me that in the summer of 1989 I was working on a tour of "Sugar Babies" and one morning as we were checking out of our hotel somewhere in MA, into the very small elevator step Bernadette and Peter Allen (we had no idea they were at our hotel).   Everyone was silent for a moment, then someone with my tour said, "This is the gayest elevator I will ever be in."

After a tense moment of quiet, everyone burst out laughing, we wished them well on their tour, and we let them be.

Ha, that is so funny! Honestly, I became a fan and found out about BP during her Gypsy run, which I saw 6 times that year. I was fresh out of college with nothing to do! But I became a fan, followed her ever since. Collected all (i think) the playbills of shows she was in and saw her in concert twice. I like her - she seems down to earth and real. Just a pleasure to watch. Going to her final performance too in Hello, Dolly. And coincidentally just started watching Mozart in the Jungle because of her. Love her in it, sad it is cancelled though.
