Last night my girlfriend and I saw the sound of music for pittsburgh. All I can say is wow!! This was a great production of a classis musical. I knew all of the songs and most of the dialogue but it was a really fresh, new, production.
First off Paige Davis. She started off a little rocky especially during the title song. She got better as the show went on. She was actually better during the faster songs because sometimes she had trouble sustaining notes. Her acting at times seemed a little fake but she was just so great for the part and you could tell she was having a great time up there. Paige also had great stage chemistry with Robert Cuccioli.
Robert Cuccioli needs to be on Broadway again. Why has he only been on Broadway twice? At first he came off a little villainous but he really made the part his own. He has a very strong singing voice and made the most of what he had to sing. Edelweiss almost brought tears to my eyes.
Meg Bussert as the Mother Abess had the best singing voice in the show. Her Climb Every Mountain was breathtaking. Patrick Quinn had some comedy relief and had a strong singing voice. I can't wait to see him as the Major General in the Pirates of Penzance. Donna English did nothing for me as Elsa. The children were good but nothing great.
If you are in the Pittsburgh area or close enough to get here Sound of Music is playing until next Sunday. I would highly recommend seeing this fresh new take on a classic musical.

Paige sounds lovely! This woman needs to come back to Broadway. Am I the only one who can see her as the PERFECT replacement for Christina in Sweet Charity?

Posted: 6/21/05 at 10:31pmI love Meg Bussert. She was my inspiration when I was growing up. She's the reason I chose the theatre as a career. I remember seeing her do Kathie in The Student Prince at Pittsburgh CLO with Mark Jacoby in 1982. I wish I was closer to Pittsburgh so I could see SOM.
