Posted: 1/18/05 at 9:12amIf we are going to "correct" what people say, could we please start with the expression - "I could care..."? What the hell does that mean, and why do people say it? There used to be an expression (which I still use), "I couldn't care less", which, I believe is what people who use "I could care..." mean. But it makes no sense. If you "could care", then it means you do care. It just drives me crazy! Mostly, because the people who say it sound really stupid to me. Much more so than the use of "soundtrack" to describe a cast recording.

Hak
Sentences begin with capital letters and end with periods.
While we're discussing that which is irksome on message boards ...

Grammer 101: Simple Modal
I could care...(but I don't)
I couldn't care less. (I don't care at all.)
I could care less. (I care at least a little.)

Posted: 1/18/05 at 2:54pmWhy are some of you so stuck on the fact people don't use the term correct. Big deal, why let it bother you? It actually pisses me off more, to see so many people complaining about others calling it the wrong thing. There are a lot of other issues in the world you can be upset over than a frickin' word people use wrong.

So all we should ever talk about is war and world hunger?
re: 'soundtrack' NOT proper term#32
Posted: 1/18/05 at 2:58pmDid I say war or world hunger? It's a tad annoying seeing people get all upset over a wrong WORD. Give me a break.

Posted: 1/18/05 at 3:00pmYes, JohnPopa. We should only talk about war and world hunger - that's EXACTLY what ljay was saying.

No, you said 'there are a lot of other issues in the world you can be upset over than a freakin' word people use wrong.'
So I was asking if all we should discuss are issues of vital importance to the world then.
Because, if we're allowed to discuss things other than the most pertinent issues of the day, then it's, therefore, perfectly reasonable to discuss the fact that people are using an incorrect word in a common topic of discussion on this message board which exists for the sheer purpose of having more detailed discussions about a particular topic than on other boards with a more general topic.

Yes, a soundtrack is the recorded score from a MOVIE and an OCR or cast recording is the recorded score from a stage musical.
But, I wonder sometimes over how much time we spend on these stupid little issues. Mention it and move on. What's the big deal if someone uses the term correctly or incorrectly and you've corrected them twenty times. They either GOT it or they didn't GOT it...you know what I mean?
