By the time I saw it, It was fine and I understood every word.
Im kinda hoping Daphne gets a nomination. i know she prob wont and i know shes the victim of typical bway snarkiness around here, and i know she wont even be around when the tony nominators review the show in may, but even if you didnt like her voice, her acting was just dead on- and radically different than other Fantines.
the site whose name we doth not speak actualy has some recent evidence as such.
pulling for daphne.
I think Mary Louise Wilson is the clear front runner. However, Christine Ebersole is probably going to win best actress in a musical for her incredible performance. How many musicals have won both supporting and leading actress? (I know Hairspray got best leading actress and featured actor and Producers got best featured actress and leading actor.) However, I think they try to 'spread the awards' generally, so I'm not sold on the idea that both will win (could happen-hope it does, as both ladies deserve the award.).
Other nominees: Karen Ziemba, Celia Keenan Bolger has a good shot, the ladies from Company (Elizabeth Stanley has a good shot).
"Alisan Porter? As Bebe? Tony worthy?"
THANK YOU! I'm sorry, but I wasn't inspired by any of the performances in ACL...So Tony worthy? I don't think so
I was saying IF any CHORUS LINE members were nominated, she would be my choice.
I went on to say Erin Davie should take that slot anyway.
Bway Gal: SOUTH PACIFIC won all four acting categories in 1950: Mary Martin, Leading Actress; Ezio Pinza, Leading Actor; Juanita Hall, Supporting Actress and Myron McCormick, Supporting Actor.
And HAIRSPRAY won THREE of the categories: Harvey Fierstein, Leading Actor; Marisa J Winokur, Leading Actress and Dick Latessa, Featured Actor.
For me it's between Mary Louise Wilson and Erin Davie this year. They were/are both superb.
Most recently, Sutton Foster and Harriet Harris won both lead and supporting tonys.
You'd have to go back 21 years earlier to 1981 when Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Cooper won for "Woman of the Year."
"A Chorus Line" in 1976 had Donna McKechnie and Carole (Kelly) Bishop winning.
"A Little Night Music" in 1973 had Glynis Johns and Patricia Elliot winning.
In 1968, Leslie Uggams shared the best actress tony with Patricia Routledge and Lillian Hayman won as well for supporting in "Hallelujah Baby!"
Of course, in 1966, both Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur took home tony's for "Mame."
Finally, I think, in 1950 Mary Martin and Juanita Hall won tonys for "South Pacific."
