I just got around to checking the website. Is it really coming to Detroit? It's not listed on the Fisher Theatre website and it seems odd that it would only be there for 1 (maybe 2) day(s).
EDIT: I agree with kyle. about the map. It put East Lansing above Grand Rapids when it's actually the opposite.

Saw it on San Jose on Saturday. Having seen the Broadway version, I was curious to see the differences in the sets and dances.
First off...THANK GOD the pink band uniforms are gone. The vests looked much better and I was able to watch the scene.
Secondly...The comedy in the show was still there, and the touring cast played it well. Lots of laughs during the elevator scene. Guy Adkins as Oscar stole the show in that one scene.
Third...the choreography (insert all your Cilento jokes here, then move on please) needed some tightening. The dancers were loose and the effect was a disorganized dance sequence in all of the numbers (insert more of your snarky Cilento comments here, then move on).
Lastly....Molly Ringwald, while she can definitely act, and somewhat move well...cannot sing. She cut all the notes short, and talked her way through "If My Friends Could see me Now". I could hear her gasping for breath halfway through the song.
Added note...the show was not deserving of the standing ovation it (or should I say Molly?) received. See the show for the chance to hear Coleman's music live in a theater, and to watch Guy Adkins steal the show as Oscar.

Posted: 10/2/06 at 5:11pmWe didn't wait around to see. The downtown San Jose area was a mess with traffic, as they had closed the 87 onramps. Sorry.

Posted: 10/2/06 at 5:18pmI completely agree, about the standing O's, I mean Ring of Fire got a standing O, that made me sick!

yeah, there were a lot of older folks in the crowd, and the show had sold well, so I guess maybe they felt they had to give her a standing o simply for being there.
The director of the theater (AMT) came out in the beginning and sort of "rooted" for Molly, making a big deal that "Molly was in the house".

I was so far back in orchestra I couldn't tell you if he was bald or not. I can tell you he loves being on stage though and was mocking the audience for not being "peppy" enough.
Overall, I love that theater, as the seats are spaced pretty well, and you get a good view from rear or front orchestra. I think this is where I had seen "City of Angels" 5-7 years ago.
Oh! No souviners from this show were on sale. I thought that was odd, as usually first national tours have the shirts, pins and magnets. Applegate's face wasn't on any of that kind of schwag in NY, so I guess they just didn't produce a lot of it?

Posted: 10/2/06 at 5:50pmwhen I saw the show in San Diego I asked about that, and was told to go to thebroadwaycollection.com. they're still selling the stuff on-line, but for whatever reason have not begun selling it on tour.
