Posted: 8/8/04 at 8:33amI am so freakin' sick of people talking about this song! I heard someone sing part of it once, and I don't get why everyone loves it so much.

Posted: 8/8/04 at 10:45amLike I always say, toss a nickel at Chenoweth any day of the week and she'll sing it for you in the middle of Times Square.

-christiane noll (sp?) sings it on her Live CD
-Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich wrote it and you can find it on their first CD and in their new song book
-and Kristin Chenowith sang it on Rosie O'Donnell's show- so if you can download that..which I'm sure you can find it, its everywhere...
good luck.

I think the reason it has caught on so much is that it is a very relatable, innocent, modern song.
It's cute, and it tells a story in its entirety, giving it the same appeal of a stand alone piece as the music from "Songs from a New World".
The greatest difference being that Taylor can be sung by anyone between the ages of 13-35 without seeming inappropriate age-wise.
And who doesn't think that the people working at Starbucks are hot?
HONESTLY?
(I have to defend the piece, because I think I'm going to use it for something next year... But I'm not doing the whole cutesy Cheno thing with it. I plan to act like a spazzy dork instead. You know, I have to play up my strengths.

I have it on Susan Egan's latest CD "Coffee House".
She's terrific! and I really don't know the song by anyone else, but I kind of think of it as Susan's song.
Now that I have this song stuck in my head again, I'm gonna have to play it.
It's a great tune. Sorry I can't give you a link, but if you google Susan Egan you'll find where to buy it.

TAYLOR
by Marcy Heisler & Zina Goldrich
There’s a boy who works at Starbucks
Who is very inspirational
He is very inspirational because of many things
I walk in at 8:11, and he smiles and says, "How are you?"
When he smiles and says, "How are you?"
I could swear my heart grows wings
So today at 8:11, I decided I should meet him
I decided I should meet him, in a proper, formal way
So today at 8:11 when he smiled and said "How are you?"
I said "Fine, and my name’s Carol,"
And he softly answered, "Hey."
And I told him "My name’s Carol, and thank you for the extra foam…"
And he said his name was Taylor,
Which provides the inspiration for this poem:
Taylor the latte boy,
Bring me java, bring me joy!
Taylor the latte boy,
I love him, I love him, I love him…
Well I’d like to get my nerve up
And recite my poem musical.
He would like the fact it’s musical
Because he plays guitar.
And today at 8:11, Taylor told me he was playing
With a band down in the village in the basement of a bar.
And he smoothly flipped the lever to prepare my double latte,
But for me he made it triple, and he didn’t think I knew.
But I saw him flip the lever, and for me he made it triple,
And I knew the triple latte meant that Taylor loved me too
I said, "What time are you playing? And thank you for the extra skim…"
He said, "Keep the $3.55," because this triple latte was on him.
Taylor the latte boy,
Bring me java, bring me joy!
Taylor the latte boy,
I love him, I love him, I love him…
I used to be the kind of girl
Who’d run when love rushed toward her.
Till finally a voice whispered, "Love can be yours,
If you step up to the counter and order."
Taylor the latte boy,
Bring me java, bring me joy!
Taylor the latte boy,
I love him, I love him, I love him…
So many years my heart has waited
Who’d have thought that love could be so caffeinated?
Taylor, the latte boy,
I love him, I love him, I love him.
I love him, I love him, I love him.

Posted: 8/9/04 at 12:55amI have a copy of Kristen singing it on Rosie in mp3 form. (it is for personal use, so I think it is okay to have it.....)

Posted: 8/9/04 at 1:02amYou can get Kristin singing it on Rosie on any site where you can download music- it's not that hard. Try to get Marcy and Zina's demo CD, their version is great and they also have a great "Alto's Lament"

Posted: 8/9/04 at 9:27amGod I am sick of hearing this song - at first I thought it was cute -but it's been done to death. Possums, find something to sing which hasn't been done much in the past ten years and people are more likely to sit up and listen.
#15re: taylor the latte boy
Posted: 8/9/04 at 10:13amI heard it five times in one week by five different singers, I'm fine with never hearing it again, Thank You and Goodbye Taylor!

A lot of people like this song because it's catchy and people can relate to it. I know I've gotten mixed signals from my crushes, and read into everything they did. I love Chenoweth's version the best, especially from this site: http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/programs/20020608/index.shtml
IMO, she sings it better there than on Rosie.

#22re: taylor the latte boy
Posted: 8/9/04 at 2:52pmAnd most people can't reach those notes while sitting down. She is a true artist.
#23re: taylor the latte boy
Posted: 8/9/04 at 2:55pmWell, she had to push really hard for it to come out.
