30/90 is my favorite. I've spent hours listening to just that song. Raúl sings the hell out of that song. It's gorgeous.
I love Rent but have a deeper connection with ttB. It's easier for me to relate to and feels more intimate. It captures the tragicomedic aspects of life, of being at a crossroads, so well. Therapy is hysterical; Johnny Can't Decide is so haunting. Why and Louder Than Words are simply brilliant. And 30/90 is addictive. I love, love listening to Raul, Amy and Jerry on the recording.

OMG, Don't even start me on Therapy! I love that song like no other. Not to mention the fact that Why is the best song ever written for musical theatre...END RANT.
See, the only thing that I hate about that song is that my mom likes it. Sings it around the house likes it.
And when your mom is singing "it's too late to screw, so let's just get some rest," you're bound to feel really freakin' weird.

I deffinatly connect more with the message TTB than Rent... but I can't say which ablbum I enjoy more.
Emcee, I have it worse. I no longer play "Out Tonight" in the car, b/c I will get to hear my mother say: "I want to put on a tight skirt and flirt w/a stranger." o_O
I'm like: "Mom, I burned you a copy of the CD! Do this when I am not here!"
hahaaha. I think that might just be worse!
My dad sings Pink (like the pop artist) all the time... *shakes head*...oy...

ttB has more of a traditional story. Not that the story is traditional, but it sort of has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and there's dialog, and...I don't know, it just feels more like a story while RENT feels more like a lot of emotion balled up into lots of beautiful songs. I only saw ttB in my visit to London this summer and loved it. I had the OBC recording before I went, but I hadn't seen the show. Sugar is hillarious! And "Chubstitute"!
For a really long time, I thought Sugar was about a prostitute.
haha... Emcee how many times will I have to tell you that you're my hero?

Does it count if my chihuahua always starts "dancing" whenever Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" comes on the radio?
And, my parakeet definately prefers RENT to TTB. She always sings along with Angel and Mimi. :P
I've never seen TTB, but I don't think I like it *quite* as much as RENT. But it still rocks. TTB's rougher and less polished- but I like that about it.
Well I guess what the parakeet says goes...lol. That truly made my day loudasthehelliwant, I would love to meet your chihuahua :)

On iTunes, it says that the ttB cd was released 9/11/01. Is that true?
AlexL, couldn't tell you. But 9/11 WAS a Tuesday, and most CDs and DVDs (including the RENT movie soundtrack!) are released on Tuesdays, so it would make a lot of sense.
After going through the various materials I was given in school today (first day...), I just remembered something: My Modern World History teacher gave us an assignment about a song, story, event, object, place, person, etc. that inspires us, and I'm going to do Louder Than Words! *claps excitedly*
I think I'm going to like that class...
And Taboo, in our household, once the great parakeet has spoken, you don't dare disagree. My chihuahua would love to meet you too. He sends his kisses.

I can understand maybe saying you don't like the music to a particular show, but how can you say you don't like the show if you've never seen it? That's pretty silly.:)
TTB and Rent are actually very different shows, in pretty much every way. Chances are if you'd seen them, you would probably enjoy one more than the other, for various reasons.
TTB was definetely released on 9/11...I remember because I had been looking forward to going shopping that day ALL WEEK...and then everything happened, and the irony was too much for me =/

My family keeps on singing Seasons of Love around the house. It gets annoying after a while. Now I can't play it anymore 'cause I know my family will just sing along and get the words wrong.

"Sorry to have offended, Fosse. It was the first term I thought of that seemed to fit my experiences with some of my fellow RENTheads. "
LOL. None taken. I just can't stand that term. I think mostly because it is almost always used as a way to insult teenagers. :o) But I think some of the RENTheads have way too much time on their hands...I did the lottery once, and one of the girls (and she couldn't have been out of high school yet) there was commenting on how she had seen RENT 75 times. Now, I've seen "Show Boat" over 200 times, "Miss Saigon" about 50 times, and "Ragtime" (as well as being in it) over 100. But I WORKED at the the theatre these shows played (in Chicago). Now I admit to seeing a lot of shows more than once now that I live in New York, but that's a bit excessive, because I doubt she has seen much else).
There is a whole story behind tick tick boom that you would never even think of just listening to the cd. I know a lot of people who start out hating larson and end up liking the composing.
i am seriously led to believe that larson is an acquired taste of music. You have to really listen to what the words are saying and then you begin to like the music. I would listen to it thinking wow i don't like this...all i listened to were RENT La VIE BOHEME, and HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I would fall asleep listening to the music, and then wake up in the middle of the night thinking wow i relly like this song. You need to give it a chance.
