I was wondering if anyone thought they will re-record after the Broadway transfer?
I am sure they have added more about moving to Broadway and changed some parts?
Has it happened a lot in the past where an off-broadway show records, then moves to Broadway and records again!?

Is the show still going to be about them entering the NYMTF?
Would you be at all shocked if they added another scene or 2 that was post NYMF?

I wish they add more instruments in the orchestration, which I am sure they will do like in GLORY DAYS, not that I have seen the show, but I heard that they added more orchestration.
It would definitely sound great!

I don't think they'll add more instruments. Their whole concept is "four chairs and a keyboard." I can't imagine them abandoning that.
(Though it's a shame, because a drummer or guitarist might help.)
I support them staying the same though. If any show should refuse to compromise, it is [title of show].

I expect they would at least restructure it to add a new song or too. I mean. They're on Broadway now. It's a big deal.
Another thing I was wondering is if any of the web video will be included in lieu of phone calls. They've got to do something to make it longer.

Off-Broadway it was 90 minutes.
GLORY DAYS is 85 minutes.
A CATERED AFFAIR is 90 minutes.
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE was 90 minutes.
They don't need to make it longer.

Posted: 4/6/08 at 2:03amI think the concept "four chairs and a piano" works as long as they restrict that to speaking about the set. The "rehearsal" songs can work piano-only, but some songs (namely "An Original Musical" and "Nine People's Favorite Thing") could really benefit from having just a second keyboard, percussion and bass. That's three extra band members, which is hardly a huge expense...

Goldenstate,
I agree that they could benefit, and don't think the problem is money.
The problem is compromising their values, which have always been their priority. [title of show] is about simplicity, it's about not being flashy and just being real. To adorn it at all would seem inappropriate, perhaps contradictory to its original values.

Agreed, 90 minutes for Xanadu too...it doesn't need to be longer for the sake of being longer

Yeah, but they're on BROADWAY, a place where simplicity isn't applauded very much, at least when it comes to the financial situation. They could at least maybe stash the tiny additional orchestra in a separate room (a la Avenue Q)...the effect would really flourish the story, and it would make it really come alive in a theatre like the Lyceum. I get the point of style, but it's just that in a situation like this, the style doesn't exactly work, so I'm just speculating how we can make it work...

You're not getting it. The point is that it doesn't have a big orchestra, or really anything else, for that matter. Of course it would bring the piece alive in a different way, but it's contradictory to the message of the show and the ideals of the creators. Not going to happen.

I adore the show but I'm wondering if a second disc would be wise. How many of us have held our tongues at music stores while we've watched someone struggle over which Phantom or Les Miz recording to get, because they think every new cast records a disc-so their cast must be on disc.
More than 1 disc for shows like title of show may be a foolish choice IF the material has not been changed. Is the same cast set to transfer?
Also, is this show going to sell out? Probably not. It has a limited audience, despite its greatness.
A heard a statistic a few years ago about cast album collecting. In terms of people who buy everything for their collection, the number was quite low, something around 1,200 or something. I'm sure the availability of itens on itunes and other internet sites has made the number slightly larger.
I still haven't found much reason for another title of show recording, besides my love of the show. But how many of us adore this show because of our knowledge of musical theatre, etc. Most audiences won't have a clue about most of the obscure references in the show. I'm still worried about how this show will translate from a small off-Broadway run to commercial Broadway. I wish they would have gotten Circle in the Square.
