#1[title of show] - PG-13 or R? [spoiler alert]

For those of you who've seen it, what kind of "strong language and conversation" merits its suggested 12+ guideline?
We're thinking of seeing a preview in early July.
Basically, is [tos] a PG-13 or an R? Anyone know? For comparison's sake, we're postponing seeing Spring or Q for a few years more, but we saw ACL and Chicago with no issues.

well, there's the lyrics in Original Musical:
"I ****in' like you, and may just be ****in' crazy enough, to ****ing ****ity succeed ****in' fucnin' mother****er!!!"
If you listen to the cast recording, you'll get the idea. I first heard it when I was 15 two years ago (I'm 17 now).

Posted: 6/24/08 at 9:31amI agree with the above statements being the most they are "warning" you about. (But I only know this from the CD....will be seeing for the first time in early August.)

At one point in the show, they start talking about getting their show an audience by taking off their clothes. Not to mention Hunter and Susan have mouths like truckers.
But it's not just that...There's also a stories about Mary Stout being knocked over with a hot dog cart, and Betty Buckley being "a hot box of crazy".
Would your kids really "get" the humor enough to enjoy the show? I'd steer clear honestly

Posted: 6/24/08 at 11:16amIt's at about the same level of profanity as Avenue Q (minus the puppet nudity), if not a little more. But really, it's just language and a few sexual references, and it's a really hilarious show if you think your kids can handle it.

OK, so we [tos]sed a coin on this one and it came up heads we go. So I just bought a pair for July 11.
Thanks to everyone for their advice!

Post-Show Edit: We had row D mezz last night and loved it. That's actually the area the cast looks up to a lot, and in the Lyceum the mezz is close to the stage. Yeah TDF!
My daughter and I spent the week getting prepared by rewatching the [tos] show on YouTube, and we had a chat about the language they used, and how it shocked people and made them laugh. That was important, because as they themselves count, there are 7 mofos and 12 f*** in the [tos] script. A bunch are in a song where Hunter pretends to be a ghetto rapper speaking the lingo, but Jeff chastises him for the foul language. The boys also make a few jokes about staying home and masturbating, alone. There's a same-sex kiss done on a dare, and some drag queen dissing. A funny scene where 3 of the 4 take their shirts off, so yes, if you do the math, one is a female in a red bra.
That was my favorite scene, by the way...
So yes, it's a PG-13, which means many mature 9-12 yr olds might also "get it". Not a PG and not an R. Nothing that should exclude the young'uns from seeing it, but don't bring the neighbor's kids unless their parents are cool. Would be very cool for junior high school field trips, but make sure the permission slip mentions strong language. And make sure they know their divas and flops, or they won't get some of the jokes.
And who's the one with the hot dog cart? That joke flew over my head too.

[postscript]
After the show ended at 9:45, we ran round back to the stagedoor, and my daughter got the first spot by the stairs. She asked each cast member to sign both the Playbill and a Post-it like they used on the [tossibility board update] sign (they sell them in a 5-pack at Rite Aid, [tossers]).
Broadway's Cheyenne Jackson went last night, but he sprinted out the stage door so fast we couldn't even tell him to get outta here. Damn Yankees was off last night, we found out later.
We each had duct taped [title of show] across our t-shirts, and the cast all said "nice shirts!" They signed and chatted with the crowd for half an hour, but then they were called back inside for something. When we got home we removed the duct tapes and put them over an ad in the centerfold of the Playbill we're putting in the memory box. And a happy ending to our tale.
