So I am going to New York in a few months and trying to figure out if its a good idea to use the TKTS booth, so I am wondering how much money TKTS booth tickets cost normally and if they are good seats!

Average is between 30 and 50% off.    Most of your answers can be found. HERE

Good seats?  It can really vary.   It will change drastically depending on which month you will be in town, which days of the week you plan on theater going as well as which show(s) you are hoping to see.

If you're seeing a show with discount codes, you can often get 40% off in advance, and pick your seats. Always seemed a better deal than TKTS to me. For shows that don't do discounts, then sure, that might be your only option.

Also if you are going during a very busy holiday it could also limit availability. Your post didn't mention date.

Sometimes the seats are good and sometimes less so. Sometimes, they have premium seats that were released close to showtime and they're outstanding. You always know the seat location and % discount before you have to agree to buy it so if it's not good, ask what they have for other shows or simply says "thanks, I'll pass" and walk away.

Just a tip also, go to the Lincoln Centre booth not the one is Times Square.

There is rarely a line, the staff there are wonderful and very helpful and the opening hours are a lot better.

Plus you can get next day matinee tickets and evening performances on the weekend earlier in the day than at Times Square.
