tony nomination predictions are around almost as soon as a prouduction is conceived....
just a few predictions heard:
Isabel Keating, supporting in a musical for Boy from Oz and I. Mendel for Wicked
actress in a musical : Donna Murphy for Wonderful Town, Kristen Chenowith for Wicked
actor in a Musical: Hugh Jackman for Boy from Oz
nomination for supporting actor in a musical to the young man who plays Boy George in Taboo (Euan Moran?) and the boy who plays the young Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz
best musical: Avenue Q, Wicked, Taboo
best score: Taboo
best revival: wonderful town, little shop of horrors

Idina Menzel better be nominated, she was INCREDIBLE in Wicked.

Yeah and Idina better be nominated in the lead category because she deserves that credit and the show is pretty much about her and of course the relationship between Galinda and Elphie. Go Idina!

I have no doubt that Idina and Kristin will both be nominated for Best Actress in a Musical.
I think Carole Shelley will be nominated as Best Supporting Actress.

I think that Kristin and Idina are equally as good in that show, but yes, Idina does have the bigger role! So I think it would only be smart for the Tony Commitee to Nominate Idina for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, and Kristin for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical! That way hopefully they with both win! It is kinda like the Oscar nominations for Chicago...They put Catherine and Renee in different categories! As for other nominations:
Best Musical: Wicked
Best Score: Wicked
Best Director: Wicked
I think Wicked is gonna own the Tony's this year, maybe even more than that dumb show...what is it called...oh yea "Hairspray"

Hairspray is not dumb. It is very well written as well as extremely entertaining--nothing wrong with that.
It is early in the season--who knows how good the upcoming shows will be (Never Gonna Dance, Fiddler, Bombay Dreams, etc). But, I'm hoping that Avenue Q racks up the nominations--and isn't belittled for being a "puppet show".
It will also be interesting to see how the plays stack up once we get into the season.

Tony Awards- What a spectacle!
Hmm, just some thoughts
I am the biggest WICKED FAN, and yes every one knows that it is going to be a huge deal between Kristin winning over Idina or vice versa. Both leading ladies display such confidence in their characters and embroider their roles with the perfect emotions and devotions driving them into their breathtaking performances. Some are saying on here that they should be split into different categories. I am a huge Idina Menzel fan- she is my most favorite person on Broadway- but Kristen worked just as hard and is too big of part to be placed in Supporting. This is going to be such a hard ordeal.
I also hope to see Avenue Q walk away with some honors. I havent seen the show yet, but have enjoyed the CD and heard hilarious coments on its witty choice of lyrics. I have tickets for February- Row D, mez. (are those good?)-and am very excited. I really dont thik Taboo will win anything, but perhaps get nominated, just because it is already recieving mized reviews and some people are scared to see it.
Would Little Shop be nominated for best new musical or revival? I def. think it will earn a nomination, but totally get outplayed by the other big shows on the streets such as WICKED. Miss Butler I also think should earn a nomination for interpretation of Audrey. I know some people are still hooked on Ellen Greene- hell I love her too- but Kerri wanted to be different and did a fine job at making the part her own. The Tony comitee better recognize her for that. Hunter was incredible as well- such a cute Seymore- and the Urchants who def. held the show together should get some recognition, but placing them in a category would be very difficult. The whole cast of Little Shop showed so much promise, I think all should be nominated!
Nobert Leo Butz should also get some sort of nomination for his role in Wicked. His beautifully, cultured voice added something to those gorgeous love songs in WICKED. Joel Grey is the only lead I think that should get diddly squat. And Carole Shelly was very excellent- Supporting nomination for her.
NEVER GONNA DANCE, though I havent seen it, is dazzling little love story surrounded by high kicks and turns and I know it isnt that big but I hope to see it get nominated. Hugh Jackman in The Boy from Oz better win Best Actor.

Just FYI- Little Shop can't be in the best revival category because it was never ON broadway. it would have to be in the best musical category. Also, the "featured" actor or actress category is basically the supporting category........someone said that idina was the lead so she should be in the featured and kristin in the supporting. there is no supporting it is called featured.....and to add my 2 cents worth... I have seen the show and both women were nothing short of amazing, I think they should both be nominated in the best actress category because they certainly both are leads. I would love to see them both win but I think its insulting to put them in seperate categories because one of them would have to be in featured category and neither of them were just "featured". Though this means only one can win I think it is what should be done...I would be happy with either:)

I won't be seeing The Boy From Oz, LSOH, Wonderful Town and Wicked till next month so I will have to wait to give my nominations for musicals.
In the play category I would like to nominate Tovah Feldshuh for Golda's Balcony and Eileen Atkins in The Retreat From Moscow as best leading actresses.
Jefferson Mays for I Am My Own Wife and if anyone else wins I will be shocked and devastated.

JCR279, a show needn't have played on Broadway for it to be considered a revival according to relatively new rules by the Tony committee.

really? that makes sense. I hadn't heard about the new rule thing...I myself would consider it a revival but I just thought a show had to be actually on broadway before and then revived to be in that category but hey....you learn something new everyday:)

Dont get me wrong- Bernadette Peters has left a huge footprint on Broadway, originating classic roles and revising some of the biggest female characters known to musical theater, that basically Bernadette can get away with anything she wants to since she is "Bernadette." But last for last years Tony's, Bernadette deserved a nomination because number one she is Bernadette Peters and number two she is probably a new style of Mama Rose, but def. did not deserve to win. Marissa Janet Winokur (totally just butchered her name I bet) totally earned that one. I havent seen HAIRSPRAY (I know, one of the unfortunate few and one of the stupid people who recieved the CD in the mail before it went into previews offering $55 ochestra seats..yes I know I'm a fool), but all my friends have and they all say the energy is irreplaceable by anyone and no one can top her. She does so much dancing ever single night. Its a demanding role and she picks it up a million levels higher that what expected. So no Bernadette did not get screwed over. She just had some challenging competition thats all that seemed to out do her one year. There I'm done- The End.

Bernadette was most certainly screwed over. I don't care how much energy Marissa Jaret Winokur put into her performance in Hairspray, nor do I care what your friends think. No performance in the role of Tracy Turnblad could equal the emotional energy and intense vocals of Bernadette Peters in Gypsy. So many Tony decisions are political, and this was a perfect example.
