re: [tos] Gypsy of the Year Number is Up!

I love [tos].
What does susan say at the very end? I can't tell.
"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Did it just abruptly stop for anyone else?

Ugh, I miss this show. I hope it does come back to Broadway in April. As much as I know "Billy Elliot" will win, I wish [Title of Show] could pick up a few awards.

How deeply, PROFOUNDLY moving! I am so impressed with the genius these four people possess. They make us laugh and cry and think. THAT is what I want to see on stage, not kitty cats, helicopters, falling chandeliers and dancing coal miners.

THE GREAT WORK BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it that only [tos] can make something that is funny, ascerbic, touching, beautiful, sad, hilarious, nostalgic, entirely new, and just so very tos-tastic, all at once? Ah, this made my day.

Pretty special.

Thanks for posting.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks so much for sharing... that was beautiful. I just read Angels in one of my classes and they way they brought it all together was truly touching. Miss this show dearly and the passion and talent they brought to Broadway!

A couple questions.

1. Could they add the song if they come back to Broadway? Wouldn't that make it a totally new show, or is that pretty standard? I know other shows have made changes after being reviewed and stuff, so I guess it wouldn't matter?

2. So after watching the [Title of Show] Show, they never had an out of town try-out, right? I think, and I know it all revolves around money, but they should have taken the interim to take the show to like DC and Boston to get the word-of-mouth going.

3. And since the Lyceum is now taken by "Reasons To Be Pretty," I wonder where they'll end up?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. I love this show, I miss this show. One of the most brilliant theatre experiences ever is the the one that follows the [tos] cast wherever they go.

Bump. Any idea where they might end up? Circle in the Square? The Booth is taken up with "The Story of My Life." Maybe they're hoping it will close before April?

Mommarose, in the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, you don't know them too well, do you? The [title of show] gang is very serious about a return. Whether they can pull it off is another matter. If anyone can do it, though, it'll be them. I wish the very best for them.

Sadly, I missed Gypsy of the Year & no matter what computer I'm on, I've been unable to get past 2:45 on the video here. Guess I'll have to wait until BC/EFA releases their version.

I assumed they were pretty serious. I mean, why not? They kept pushing the "going to Broadway" idea before it was even in stone, so I wouldn't be surprised if they resurfaced. I'm just curious to see how it all works out - if they'd rewrite anything, comment on the past couple of months, etc. Heidi is going into "Little Mermaid" from January to April, and they mentioned in the video that they're coming back in April. Seems a little coincidental to me. Although, if it did happen, I'd see it at least 4 more times.
