Not till you get over here and clean up.
oooo - do you talk to redhot that way?? And get away with it??
Doubt it.
well, he gives it right back...
Don't doubt it.
oh boy do I ever!
Rath, I just finished saying to a friend the other day that I was surprised the production team didn't insist (after a certain period of time) that she be replaced and just take the time to get well.
It could have been discussed and, for whatever reason...perhaps star quality and the fact that they felt SOME performances from her would be better than none...don't know
In any event, my point is that there is obviously SOMETHING going on here and it is not her normal M.O. so I think we have to give her the benefit of the doubt. Frankly, after seeing her recently at various events over the last 6 months or so, I wonder if there isn't something seriously wrong with her health.
I won't speculate on what it is. I WILL say that the suggestion of someone on this thread that she needed a good therapist (if I understood the post correctly) is really cruel. If she DOES have some sort of emotional or mental problem that is no less debilitating than a physical illness and should not be said as if it is HER fault...IF in case that is what is the problem.
I tend to think it's a physical illness just from seeing her...but I could be way off base.
I don't think it's an emotional problem. Believe me, there are other divas who have plenty of emotional problems who still show up every night. And yes, it was cruel of someone to suggest that.
I do sincerely hope that she is not in some kind of serious medical trouble. I have tried to get that across, but don't know if it has.
CMLeidi: If you are thinking Murphy had control over what was told the public and when think again.
When Lane was having throat problems in the Producers, there was a HUGE discussion among the creative team and the producers and Lane etc...and there was an agree upon position.
The producers in most cases like this don't like to replace the person unless it is absolutely necessary or if they have someone who is perfect and of good star quality waiting in the wings. Otherwise, they'd rather keep the audience guessing so that they show up for the show thinking they MIGHT see the star, since the star has been in and out.
In a case where a star is seriously ill it can be devastating to do this, but they are under contract and will typically TRY to keep going if they are pros because (contrary to the opinions of SOME) they are PROS and want to fulfill their obligation.
Is this right for the audience OR the star? No...probably not...but this business exists to make money and that is the primary objective. NOT to be 'fair' to an audience member or to give the star time to recuperate.
This is a grueling business and professionals are expected to give it their best shot. Some do...some don't. I think Murphy has tried her best and I hope that whatever is ailing her will be resolved after she is out of the show and able to rest.
